    The article is talking about there being generally less wind during cold spells in the winter (which is meteorologically accurate).

    But it's not talking about blades being caked in ice following a severe winter storm.  If it's a severe winter storm, you're almost always going to have wind - it's just part of the mechanics of winter cyclones.

    The reason the turbines don't work hass to do with the temperatures screwing with the inner mechanics.

    So, in places with typically warmer weather in the winter (and I say that relatively - our winters may feel bad down in Detroit, but they're nothing compared to winters in areas of Minnesota, etc.), turbines may still spin.

    I know Ontario has a ton of wind turbines up, and I'm not sure if they found a workaround to the problem or not.

    I'm not an expert on wind technology, just my 2 cents as a meteorologist! ;)
