May be hard to understand, but often, votes aren't taken in a vacuum.  Many times they are taken as a package - so for example:

    Package A:

    1. eliminate $100 tax
    2. impose simpler $10 tax

The overall Package A is $90 tax cut.  But if you look at just the #2 vote, you'd say a tax increase was voted for.  you'd be wrong.

your bullet points 1, 2 and 5 are like #2 in Package A.  There was an overall tax cut in the Package that we voted on -- so says ATR (who is wise enough to look at the entire package).  not to mention we also eliminated, with spending cuts, a $1.3B deficit that had been filled with annual fed bailouts for the prior three years.

    - your 3rd bullet point - that's so taxpayers don't pay via Medicaid for medical costs that should be borne by the insurer -- guess you'd rather pay higher taxes?

your 4th bullet point - i voted against it...but if that's all it takes for you to want to encourage the MEA to keep assaulting those who are fighting for our state's future...well, that's up to you.

    hope you understand.

    If you bet on it.

I am not a fan of big government types, and my desire for less government intrusion certainly makes me not support those who are.  But as Tom pointed out, moving things in our direction sometimes is done as a package.
