    . . . to any potential challengers (whether contending for a vacancy or primarying an incumbent) is to forego the "Benjamin Project" . . . for now . . . and focus on canvassing the district on a precinct-by-precinct basis with a nominating petition.

    Circulating a petition is a most excellent way to build district-wide name recognition.  This allows you to get an informal feel for the district's pulse on the incumbent, and can start to circulate your message well in advance of the actual campaign.

    Besides, if you get to about one week before the filing deadline and still don't have the signatures, the Benjamin Project is still a usable fallback option.
