    MIGOP Outreach Vice-Chair candidate Akindele Akinyemi has officially dropped his bid for the position.  Akinyemi sent out an email Sunday evening announcing his decision.

    In his email, that was at times critical of the MIGOP, Akinyemi stated;

    I am deeply concerned about the direction of our party. The more I began to evaluate our party and the people in it the less I became convinced that we could change.

    His announcement comes after conducting a "listening tour" of the state that lasted several months and took him to cities such as Benton Harbor, Pontiac, Detroit, Muskegon and Grand Rapids.  The tour was done to support his outreach program and was meant to lead up to the MIGOP state convention to be held later this month.

    I think Akindele dropping out of the race is a real bad sign about the changes we need to make in our state party. We need to reach to new voters and I think he would have done a fantastic job doing this.

    I am so sick of good candidates dropping out of races like this.

    I know it was his choice, but

    1. Akindele is very articulate and passionate about his beliefs

    2. I'm so sick of seeing consenus candidates win without some sort of contest where they actually have to explain to the delegates their plan and actually be held to account for their actions 2 years later.

    I'm just disappointed.  There were a lot of us hoping that Akindele would be the next vice chair and could see the passion and dedication that he'd bring to the role.

    I can understand his frustration, but if we are going to be a majority party again, then we need be relevant to people other than those who think "lower taxes" is the answer to every problem.
