    I Agree With Monica Conyers

Yes, I agree with Monica Conyers.  I know that statement will shock many people in Michigan politics, but I have to be honest.  No, not about Detroit vs. the suburbs.  No, not on her bombastic behavior on the city council. It's her attitude on political accountability.

Ms. Conyers recently attended a political breakfast event regarding regionalism and race relations in southeast Michigan.  As usual she was suffering from diarrhea of the mouth, but amazingly a stunning, blunt truth sprang forth from her lips amid the normal misguided verbal food fight that she normally engages in.

"If you continue to have the same people, you never get new people with creative ideas."

And the truth shall set you free!  With that statement, Monica Conyers exposed the biggest problem in Detroit; no political accountability.  The same people and the same political party run the show in Detroit year after year.  Nothing changes.  Congratulations Monica, common sense seems to be slowly seeping into your brain.  She recognizes the negative impact of a political monopoly on the city.  Keep electing Democrats and nothing changes.  Simple.

Ironically, her husband is the best (worst?)example of what happens when you elect the same person over and over and over again.  Congressman John Conyers has been in office since 1964.  That's forty five years people.  Think about it.  Is Detroit better off now then it was 45 years ago?  I don't think so.  Not even close.

So, if Monica Conyers of all people can see this then certainly there is hope for Detroit.  After all, this is the same woman who lost an argument to an eighth grade girl and likes to brawl in bars.  We should rejoice at this faint glimmer of hope in a troubled city that is in desperate need of this type of thought.

Chad Miles was the 2006 Republican candidate in Michigan's 14th Congressional district and is a veteran of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division.

Yeah conyers would go along with term limits as long as it doens't throw her out on the street.

Claiming to support term limits is a popular thing to say as long as you don't have to back it up with real talk.

Oh well. Long live our public servants who serve for ever.. and ever.. and ever.. wait.. kind of like John Cherry...
