10 million on Medicaid for illegals??? (none / 0) (#1)

We are running neck and neck with California, for the worst state in the country. I think Michigan could turn it around, right here, by Cutting the illegals off Medic-aid. Maybe that will get them,  on the path to legal status, obeying the law, and paying taxes.

Maybe not, maybe they'll just move to a more liberal state, that wants to give benefits to people, that are not legally even suppose to be here in this country.

Glad to hear that... (none / 0) (#3)

...the "First Gentleman" is down to one staffer now.  Not that I understand why he needs any staffers at all.  Isn't the guy basically a stay-at-home-dad without kids to raise?  Does the man do anything but watch Oprah and his favorite soaps all day?  Maybe he gets lonely...

    Seconded (none / 0) (#5)

I thought it was just my equipment over here, or my noisy kids, but I guess not.  It wasn't terrible, but I had to crank it a bit.

Not to nitpick though.  I'm just glad things like this are brought to our attention.

Is this video Arlan Meekhof's idea of a joke? (none / 0) (#9)

On Lottery advertising...Last time I checked the voters of this state approved of the state lottery.  If we are going to have a lottery, there probably should be some advertising ...I guess you could debate how much should be spent on advertising.  It sounds to me like maybe Mr. Meekhof thinks we shouldn't have a lottery at all.  If that is so, he should initiate that debate...I don't think there would be much support for getting rid of it though.

Dependent health insurance for state employees is a ridiculous/frivolous expenditure? Fraud is unacceptable and those people should suffer appropriate consequences.  Does Mr. Meekhof actually believe that dependent health insurance for state employees is frivolous? That is ridiculous.

State archaeologist...According to the State of Michigan web site... "The OSA fulfills the archaeological functions required of the State Historic Preservation Office by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (as amended). This work includes reviewing projects using federal or state assistance to assess possible impacts on archaeological resources..."  Given the other functions listed (but not cited here) it sounds like $450,000 for that office is pretty reasonable...and basically every state has a State Archaeologist.

Meekhof acknowledges that the Office of the  First Gentleman doesn't have a $250,000 budget anymore-now he only has an administrative assistant...so this isn't a current "frivolous expenditure" it is a past "frivolous expenditure". I also don't care if the office is eliminated entirely.  Just out of curiosity, did Michelle Engler, or Blanchard's wife have an office/staff and if so, what was the budget?

So far Mr. Meekhof is not very impressive...I wonder if he will include his own salary and benefits as a state rep in his top 5 "frivolous expenditures"?.
