$725,000,000 to create 4,000 direct jobs...

Governor Granholm, as previously discussed is giving $725,000,000 in tax incentives to create a renewable energey park in the shuttered Ford Wixom plant in Wixom, MI. Via Reuters:

        * Terms of Ford Wixom plant sale not disclosed

        * Two companies plan $725 mln initial investment in park

        * Renewable energy park seen creating up to 4,000 jobs

On August 19th 2009, the project was going to create 2,750 direct and 10,000 sub-supplier jobs. I guess they have `better' forecasts three weeks later. But, the crazy thing is Granhom is spending $181,250 for each direct job. If you include the 10,000 spin off sub-supplier jobs (I think it's a dubious number), Granholm is spending $51,785 per job.

I don't understand why she can't give all businesses a tax cut and the free market create the job's.

    The story continues...

The companies will look for other green manufacturers for the remaining space. Redevelopment work is expected to start early next year with manufacturing beginning in late 2011.

The estimate for job creation includes workers expected to be hired at the plant and nearby suppliers, with thousands more jobs created indirectly, Ford said.

Ford has worked with the companies, Michigan state officials and local officials for nine months on the plant project, which has received state and local tax credits and incentives.

Many high tech companies are located in California and Texas, and "to have a big magnet like this will be terrific in drawing these other companies to Michigan," Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. said at an event marking the deal.

Granholm continues to pick winners and losers...
