Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    This makes the point

About carpentry licensing, and those who support draconian legislation that takes all measure of options off the table for someone who has talent, but not the ability to fight 'gubmint' for 'permission' to earn a living.

As is often the case, I found this gem over at Capitol confidential as a video of the day.

    Worth checking daily.

    The language:

"to prohibit a person from earning money as a carpenter on a commercial structure or as a carpentry contractor unless he or she is granted a state license. The bill would impose testing, training, license and testing fees, and apprenticeship standards. To qualify for a license a carpenter would need to have at least 6,000 hours of experience over at least four years under the direct supervision of a licensed carpenter contractor. "

    ...and, I'll ask again.

    Which proves that (none / 0) (#2)

Government is it's own worst enemy. By the imposition of regulations that are designed to or because of unintended consequences restrict the ability or further impose increased difficulty on an individual or group to organize and engage in a business venture, Government reduces it's own revenue base by limiting the creation of wealth which is then taxed to support government. Further by restricting the creation of wealth and hence more jobs when business needs to expand due to success, goverment further reduces it's revenue by discouraging the creation of said jobs and wealth to a large segment of the population which by design if left unchecked would increase and expand revenues to government. A fancy way of saying that 1) Art Lafler was right and 2) Government has a way of killing the Golden Goose.

...but you also need to look at other trades that the government involves itself in, along with who signed off on it.

    Want to drive a truck?

Great, now pony up the money for a CDL. Well stop you on the road any time we want, and well test you for drugs and alcohol in your system whenever we feel like it. Refuse, and we'll consider you guilty along with taking away your license...and ability earn a living (Thank you, Ronald Reagan).

Want to travel into places like Canada? Well, don't go running off to the Great White North just yet. You need an enhanced ID. A "regular" ID just won't do! We need to know who we have coming into the US. (Thank you George W. Bush)

Want to haul haz-mat? Whoops, you just might be a terrorist. Better have TSA check you out first to make sure that you don't go out and do some dangerous terroristy stuff. Oh, and be sure that you pay us each time we take your fingerprints. You can't drive if we don't say it's okay (Thank you, George W. Bush).

How safe is that truck you're driving?

Better get it inspected every year...by a licensed vehicle inspector. Make sure that you have the sticker we require. (Thank you again, Ronald Reagan).

And just wait until next year when the CSA 2010 and PSP programs are implemented (Thank you Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood -r).

As you can see, there is plenty of blame to go around.
