The City of Troy and state election officials have different ideas of when and how to fill the seat of former Mayor Janice Daniels.

After Daniels' Nov. 6 recall, the City Council appointed Mayor Pro-Tem Dean Slater to fill her seat until the next scheduled election in November 2013. But state election officials challenged the length of the appointment, saying state law required a special election be held to fill the seat.

The special election would be in February and all candidates wanting to file candidacy forms have until Monday to do so.

"We just want to abide by the law, whatever it is," he [Councilman Fleming] said. "We want to do the right thing, but it's not enough notice to vet people, or to even get their applications in. It would be very difficult to comply."

...have Mayor Daniels run for her old seat.

She has a proven track record of watching out for Troy Taxpayer's hard-earned money.

She can also use the cost of a new election as a club against Kulesz and his flying monkeys during the campaign.
