    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    via CNBC.com

Ratings firm Egan-Jones cut its credit rating on the U.S. government to "AA-" from "AA," citing its opinion that quantitative easing from the Federal Reserve would hurt the U.S. economy and the country's credit quality.

The Fed on Thursday said it would pump $40 billion into the U.S. economy each month until it saw a sustained upturn in the weak jobs market. (Read more: Fed's 'QE Infinity' - Four Things That Could Go Wrong)

In its downgrade, the firm said that issuing more currency and depressing interest rates through purchasing mortgage-backed securities does little to raise the U.S.'s real gross domestic product, but reduces the value of the dollar.

My Tax Dollars Are Funding What!?!?

Fay Beydoun's parents speak Arabic at home, and she's learning the language at Riverside Academy West.

"Alsalam Alikoum. Kaif halak," she repeated during a recent Arabic class featuring common greetings. Translation: Hello. How are you?

"I already knew how to write the language, but it's good to be able to speak it and understand it, too, inside and outside the classroom," said Beydoun, 17, a senior.

It is part of the curriculum in all grades at 10 schools in the Global Educational Excellence charter system, which has facilities in Hamtramck, Detroit, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Ann Arbor.

The charter schools were founded by Palestinian immigrant Mohamad Issa and his brother Said Issa in 1997 with 97  students. He said learning Arabic, in addition to the traditional core curriculum, will better enable students to compete in a global marketplace.

The next logical step, he said, is to expand into the Middle East, becoming the only Michigan-based charter system on foreign soil.
    ....

"Sweden operates a charter-like system, and they're also found in Canada, England, and New Zealand ... ," he said. "There are other charter school management companies with schools in other countries, but as far as we know, there aren't any other Michigan-based charter operators with schools in other countries."
    ...

Back at Riverside West Academy, when the bell rings, it resembles any other school with kids laughing, greeting each other and quickly moving to the next classroom.

The similarities end there. The schools practice gender separation in all academic classes. But boys and girls eat in the same cafeteria, which is halal in keeping with Islamic law.

Ah, got it.  My tax dollars are going towards funding a colonizing people and their madrasas.  Oh joy... All hail multiculturalism!  And, down the road, I also look forward to reading all about how much of our U.S. tax dollars were funneled off to the Brotherhood in durka-durkastan too.  Say walla, bro.

Michigan Supreme Court justices Thursday afternoon are dissecting legal challenges mounted to stop four proposed constitutional amendments from getting on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.

At issue is whether proposals seeking eight new casinos, strengthening collective bargaining rights and placing restrictions on raising taxes and building new international bridges and tunnels make undisclosed changes to the state constitution.

The hearing is a latest development in a high-stakes election-year battle to place as many as six constitutional amendments on the ballot.
    .......

[Solicitor General John] Bursch was arguing against the collective bargaining, casino expansion and bridge amendments on behalf of Gov. Rick Snyder and Attorney General Bill Schuette.

Hmmm, a 4-2 SCOMI should be fun to watch, eh?  But, as always, "zero Michigan taxpayer dollars are involved" with fighting for the Nerd's DRIC in court.  Like ObamaCare, just wait until you see how much that "free" bridge costs all of us.

Yet another watermelon jobs success story via The Detroit News

Struggling battery maker A123 Systems Inc. - with nearly 800 employees in Michigan - said it reached a deal with a Chinese auto parts company for an investment of up to $450 million that could keep the company in business - and will likely see the Chinese firm acquire a majority stake in the battery maker.

Waltham, Mass.-based A123 reached a deal with Wanxiang Group Corp. that will allow the Chinese firm to acquire an 80 percent stake in A123.

A123 has won about $500 million in grants and other support from state and federal governments - including $238 million from the state of Michigan and a $249 million Energy Department grant as in August 2009 as part of the $800 billion stimulus.

A123 in April received a two-year extension on its deadline to spend the rest of the $249 million grant.

    Rest here

Frilliant!  Good thing them A123 Execs got their cut for failure first.  And, thanks, Lansing!  What DC doesn't steal for China, you do.

Watermelon jobs?  They are green on the outside, but all Red on the inside.
