  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    The Law & The EDC

Frederic Bastiat in 1850 wrote a pamphlet called "The Law" Which may have been a response to rising socialism in France.  Half way through it, this 160 year old treatise on what we do collectively to provide the fairest treatment has given incredible inspiration on a number of topics.

This particular quote is relevant especially to those in Michigan Government who would use the  proceeds of our work in a way that offers special favoritism toward one class or group at the cost of another. From The Law:

"But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay, for it is not only an evil itself, but also it is a fertile source for further evils because it invites reprisals. If such a law--which may be an isolated case--is not abolished immediately, it will spread, multiply, and develop into a system."
Mr Snyder, as a smarter than the average bear governor, do you get it?

The incredible similarity to all that is wrong today is pervasive content in the remainder of this too often forgotten "pamphlet."

    Read it.
