  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Under normal circumstances, I'll whip something up in a short time when inspiration happens, or action is needed right away..  Other times I will spend a few minutes, or look at it repeatedly with fresh eyes each time.  It saves embarrassment or other conflict.

I had posted something earlier today which is not up any longer.  It was my response to Granholm's State of the State. I removed it pending further edits, and a new perspective..

The removal being the result of bad timing.  My own.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

Inside Pitch: About that "two convention" discussion...

Turns out we don't have to wait until tomorrow to find out whether or not the Michigan Republican State Committee will adopt a radical new "two convention" nominating process to select the GOP candidates for Attorney General and Secretary of State.

Facing pressure from current Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land and current Attorney General Mike Cox (both candidates for Governor in 2010), Chairman Ron Weiser has shelved the idea and will not be supporting it at tomorrow's regular meeting of the Michigan Republican State Committee.

Seems the issue that scuttled the whole thing was existing statute that necessitates nominations be made at the "fall" convention.

While the proposed language in the two-fer convention rules sought to ease those concerns by stating selections in the spring only made candidates "eligible" for nomination in the fall, the ultimate conclusion seems to be that it was walking a little too dangerous a legal line.

I liked the "two-fer" idea myself... but this was probably the right call.
