    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

The Dearborn Public Schools must make changes to comply with civil rights laws, following an enforcement action launched by a federal agency two years ago.

The U.S. Education Department said Thursday an agreement with the district and the department's Office for Civil Rights resolves the federal inquiry.

Parents with limited English proficiency in the heavily Arab-American [translation: Muhammadan] district were not given adequate access to information about their children's education in a language they could understand, according to the investigation.

Officials said the district also denied students learning English access to nonacademic programs and activities.

It's about time the district was required to change its policies, said Osama Siblani, publisher of the Arab American News.

    Rest here

    A little taste of Siblani?

    First Amendment restored in Dearborn.

DETROIT - A federal judge sided with Terry Jones Thursday and granted a temporary restraining order against the city of Dearborn.

Calling it "clearly unconstitutional," U.S. District Judge Denise Page Hood blasted the city's demand that Jones and his supporters sign a hold-harmless agreement in order to obtain a permit to speak against Islam in front of Dearborn's Islamic Center of America.

Suh-weet! ...and to think that Ms. Barnhardt just celebrated a 1-year anniversary too.

    Bacon.  Mmmmm, bacon.

Spotlight: Dearborn, The Most Costly City Of Residence In Michigan

How many lawsuits will it take for folks in that 24.5 sq miles of Progressive rubble to understand our U.S. Constitution?  Pastor Jones isn't cowering from Mayor O'Reilly's pandered proliferation of sharia in America.

The issue of free speech was fiercely debated Thursday in a Detroit courtroom, where a judge said he would decide next month whether it was OK for authorities to have jailed Quran-burning pastor Terry Jones and ordered him to stay away from a local mosque for three years.

Jones of Gainesville, Fla., was convicted in April by a Dearborn jury of being likely to breach the peace because of his plans to protest outside the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn. He was ordered to stay away from the mosque.

Attorneys for Jones appealed the decision, saying it violated his constitutional rights.

Exit question: Ms. Worthy, which one of your dunderheads with a law degree is arguing against the First Amendment?

A buck won't buy you what it used to. I remember the good old days in Texas where a mere American dollar could get you a gallon of gasoline or four loaves of the hardest generic white bread ever produced.

Armed with only a couple bucks in your wallet you knew you could still jump in the old gas guzzler, travel to the nearest Piggly Wiggly, and come home laden with two loaves and ten boxes of macaroni and cheese. (That the textures of the bread and the packaging of the mac & cheese were roughly equivalent was of little matter to a country boy trying to cut out a life for himself in the big city.)

Alas, the 99 cent gallon of gas, the 25 cent loaf, and the 20 cent mixed box of pasta and powdered simulated cheese food are now but historical markers of poor nourishment and higher efficiency transportation.

But Americans should be pleased to know that these days in Dearborn, Michigan, the cornerstone of world currency is making a tremendous comeback. Despite inflation, despite world unrest, and despite advancing statism, a single greenback can still buy you an inalienable and self-evident natural right. Ah...freedom!

Pastor Terry Jones has not changed his plans to protest outside of one of Michigan's oldest and largest mosques in Dearborn. He has been both begged to change his plans and threatened of consequences if he does not.

But, this is not a post about Terry Jones and his apparent lack of operating brain cells. Rather, this is a post about free speech and the shackles that have been placed upon it by the city of Dearborn and a local prosecutor.
