  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Arguments being forwarded by labor acolytes is that AG Bill Schuette is supposed to defend the constitutionally protected pensions of Detroit's workforce.

There is no constitutional protection. If anyone can find it in the 1963 (current) Michigan State Constitution, please feel free to point it out.  I must concur with McLellen's statement:

"Republican barrister Richard McLellan, a state constitutional expert, said the constitution's language regarding pensions does not bind the state to protect pensions of municipal employees.

"It doesn't say the accrued and financial benefits are guaranteed by the state -- it doesn't say that at all," McLellan said."

    It really doesn't.

And the aging/deteriorating legal brain of Frank Kelley saying so doesn't make it the truth.  Frankly, even in his BEST years, Kelley overlooked rampant corruption at all levels in Detroit, allowing the city to fall into the condition we now find it.

Detroit pensioners, you HAD your chance.

Many of them in fact. Including an EFM law which would have allowed the culling of waste without the possibility of federal judges mitigating pension levels. Instead, your best hope now is that a great big garage sale of on a DIA scale saves your rears.

Miller - Resignation Of [IRS] Miller "Bare Minimum"

U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) yesterday commented on the resignation of the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Steven Miller:
"The recent revelation that the IRS took steps to intentionally target a range of conservative groups is deeply disturbing, and the acceptance of the IRS acting commissioner's resignation today is the bare minimum that the President should accept.  Asking the Treasury Department to further investigate itself is not good enough.  The Administration must consider appointing an outside special counsel to make certain that those responsible are brought to justice.

"The American people will not stand for this blatant affront on free speech and harassment.  The truth must be brought forward, and the Congress will hold firm on bringing all those responsible to the forefront and ensure the proper protections are in place to protect each and every citizen's constitutional rights.  The American people must be able to trust their government, and in this case clearly there was abuse of power.  That cannot happen in America."

    Indeed.

There should be non-stop congressional hearings on ALL the activities this administration has been involved in.  The IRS is merely the tip of the proverbial iceberg. A special investigator should not have hands tied to merely THIS violation of first amendment rights, but should be encouraged to root out ALL the corruption Obama has cultivated during his term.

    And those roots run deep.

    6th District Follies (State Convention)

Promoted for the lesson value ~

Last Friday's 6th District Convention was almost uneventful, and while Liberty Coalition forces were moving in on 6th District management around the edges, the core positions, such as Treasurer, Chair, and Secretary went to establishment moderates. But the corrupt practices came to the fore, and were almost missed. It started when this writer had to make a motion to have the results of the elections be released to us; they started by NOT giving vote totals on the Chair race. (Read on and let your anger mobilize you...)

The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission ("JTC") authorized and directed the filing of a complaint against the Hon. Diane Marie Hathaway, a Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. The action is under the authority of the JTC under Article 6, Section 30 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963, as amended, and MCR 9.200 et seq.

For fraud, Money laundering, tax evasion, lying under oath,.. little stuff like that.

    Ouch.

AND in the mean time, the Judicial Tenure Commission has indicated it would like the Supreme court to suspend the sitting Michigan Supreme Court Justice immediately.

"The Judicial Tenure Commission, through its Examiner, requests that the Supreme Court give immediate consideration to its petition for interim suspension filed concurrently with this motion, based on the following:

    1. Respondent is, and at all material times was, a justice of the Supreme Court, State of Michigan.
    2. As a judge, Respondent is subject to all the duties and responsibilities imposed on her by the Michigan Supreme Court, including those under the Code of Judicial Conduct, and is subject to the standards for discipline set forth in MCR 9.104 and MCR 9.205.
    3. On January 7, 2013, the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission (JTC) authorized a formal complaint (FC 91) against Hon. Diane Marie Hathaway (Respondent), currently a Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court1, and the filing of a Petition for Interim Suspension with the Supreme Court.

    ...

    1. The formal complaint and petition are also based on allegations that Respondent admitted to engaging in the fraudulent concealment of assets from potential creditors as to the Florida property, and misrepresentations to the Commission in the course of its investigation.
    2. The Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments for Wednesday, January 9, 2013.
    3. In order to preserve the integrity of the judiciary and to protect the public, the petition for interim suspension should be considered and decided before that date.

WHEREFORE, pursuant to MCR 7.313(A)(5), the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission requests that this Honorable Court give immediate consideration to its Petition for Interim Suspension."
    Yep.
A side note:  Respondent is disqualified from considering this motion. See MCR 2.003; MCR 9.204(A); In re Justin, 490 Mich 394 (2012).

    Ya think?

She has 14 days in which to directly respond to the complaint.

Got kicks? Every Detroit student who shows up on the cash-crucial Student Count Day will be able to answer "yes" thanks to a donation from Bob's Classic Kicks in midtown.

BCK, 4717 Woodward, made an arrangement with the school district to give away a free pair of black leather Nikes to every student who comes to class on Oct. 3, the day when students are counted and their numbers used as the basis for per-pupil funding from the state and federal government.

The more bodies in class, the more money schools have all year.

    Rest

Perhaps, rewards for perfect attendance?  Oh hell no: Count Day Caaaaaash, fo shizzle.  Nice 'gaming the system' values you got there, Bob's Classic Kicks.  What's next?  Teaching the rest of the secrets to success for Detroit is written on the back of EBT cards?

    Taking The Bus

    via The Detroit News

The union representing Detroit's bus drivers has asked the City Council to put pressure on the transit agency to help stop the spread of bedbugs on buses.

About 50 Detroit Department of Transportation drivers have reported seeing the bugs on buses, and some have been bitten within the past year, said Henry Gaffney, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 26.

After receiving a letter from Gaffney in May, DDOT chief executive Ron Freeland said Thursday he asked a maintenance crew to investigate and sent a letter to the union later in the month saying any infested bus would be cleaned.
    ....

Their bites affect people similarly to that of a mosquito, said Erik Foster, medical entomologist for the state Department of Community Health.

"Bedbugs have been found in public transit, school buses, public buses, airplanes," Foster said.

    Rest here.  Photo here.

Can't say that I blame any form of civilization for trying to leave Detoilet.

    Apocalypto!
