    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Dr. Daniel Benishek is running a positive campaign for U.S. Congress in Michigan's First District.  He gained national attention within hours of Bart Stupak's press conference on March 21st, 2010, when he announced he would vote for the health care bill. It was widely accepted that Stupak had betrayed his conservative district with his decision to vote for the Health Care Bill.  Radio talk-show host Mark Levin had Dan on his radio program the next day, supporting him over Stupak. A flurry of television and radio appearances followed, including Sean Hannity, and Neil Cavuto. With help from the grass roots and the Tea Party Express, Stupak made a decision not to run for re-election.  In a 6-way race for the primary, Benishek won the district with just 15 votes ahead of long-time State Senator for part of the district, Jason Allen.  Allen made a decision not to ask for a recount, and Benishek would move on to face a Democrat challenger, Gary McDowell and three other candidates.  Below is a list of important names and endorsements of Daniel Benishek M.D.

Docs4PatientCare Makes First Ever Endorsement Benishek For Congress

Docs4PatientCare began as a grassroots movement led by a prominent physician in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Hal Scherz, who felt he must act in response to the AMA's support of Obamacare.

Attempting to enact his big-government health care scheme, President Obama and his supporters frequently claimed that a "majority" of doctors supported his health-care plans.  When the American Medical Association - which had opposed HillaryCare - signed onto Obama's plan last year, the organization seemed to make the President's case.  Most people assumed that the AMA represented most of the doctors in the country.  But in fact, the AMA represents less than 20 percent of all physicians in the United States.  And yet as the organization's leadership moved more to the left, it held a near monopoly on media attention on issues pertaining to public health.   No longer.

On Saturday June 26th, 2010, Docs4PatientCare made it's first ever endorsement.  As a politically neutral group who advocate for responsible healthcare reform, they held a press conference in Marquette, MI at the Landmark Inn to endorse Dr. Dan Benishek for Congress.

Dr. Dan Benishek, a surgeon from Crystal Falls, MI, is running for the United States House of Representatives in Michigan's First District.  The seat, now held by retiring Representative Bart Stupak, comprises all of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and approximately the northern third of the Lower Peninsula.

Dr. Richard Armstrong, a general surgeon from Newberry, MI, delivered the endorsement in a speech that highlighted Dan's abilities as a surgeon and the man he would replace in Congress.

    Dr. Armstrong remarked,

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    The Country Needs Conservatism

While I wait to see who will be running for the various government positions here in Michigan, one thing is absolutely clear.

    The country needs conservatism.

The only way we can slow this massive expanse of power by the liberal wing of the Democrat Party, is through conservatism.

Although it is comfortable to remain loyal to a politician who has brought your community funding, or recognition, it is especially troublesome that those in government whom we rely on, end up being our masters.

It is not any politicians job to bring us comfort, that we are to provide for ourselves.  It is a representative's job to have core principles, sound judgement, adherence to the Constitution, and constant support of  free-market solutions.

I was recently at a gathering where a candidate for office said, "Right now,  the State of Michigan is so bureaucratized, that it is not possible to do much more than try to stop bad things from happening."

Yet how many times has he tried to defund the various programs, offices, and so on?  Does he run on a platform of slashing funding?  No, it is risky because he wants many friends, friends he can keep with the help of  government funding.

Conservatives understand that the government's money is our money.  If we do not stop those who work for us from taking our money, we will be mere slaves to the State and Federal Government.

Conservatism is a simple concept, yet so many wish to make it so complicated.  It requires the separation of emotion and thought.  It requires one to do what they said they would, no matter how hard, no matter how many obstacles are set in the way.  It requires clear thinking, and a life centered in faith.

It is typical that during a primary season, liberal candidates will lean conservative to be elected.  That's pretty telling, but what is more telling is how they lean liberal to try to get elected by so-called independents.  Yet a conservative, a staunch, centered conservative needs only to remain who they are.

Conservatism is like tough-love parenting.  It sets limits, it checks the rule book, it tells the truth, even when the truth hurts.  It is the ultimate in compassion.  It sets a human being free to work, to provide, to live, and to follow their dreams.   In short, it encapsulates Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Conservatism is the only philosophy that can slow down our progression into decline.  It is the only way we can remain free.  It is the only way we, as a country and a people, can survive.

News about the Rogers City Coal Plant

The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.
    Ronald Reagan

The great election year of 2010.

In today's Presque Isle Advance, three Democrat politicians issued statements in favor of getting funding for carbon capture, which Wolverine will not get unless there is an air quality permit granted by Jennifer Granholm.
