nearly half-million and three.  My spouse and I are gone, one kid is gone, and one more will be leaving when he graduates.  It kills me to think about the friends and family I've left nearly 2000 miles away, but we had no choice. We were "blown away" all right.  Thanks, Gov. Granholm.

The US Census Bureau estimated the Michigan population to be just over 10,000,000 people.  I forget the exact number that I've seen, but lets call "nearly half a million people" 450,000.

Some quick math makes that a 4.5% drop in population.  On top of 12.6% unemployment.  Granted, some of the former Michiganders are, no doubt, children below the age of employment.  So you can't just add the two figures together for a grand total "Adjusted Unemployment" figure.  But just for the sake of trying, you could assume that about half of the persons leaving the state are adults lacking a job.  Since a lot of these persons are supposedly our recent college graduates, there are probably less children than the typical "average family unit" figure would suggest.  Anyway, that would give you a total (completely speculative and impossible to prove) "Adjusted Unemployment" figure of around 14.5-15%.

    That's pretty bad.
