It really seems he is non-political.

YES he wants to be governor, YES, he will work to win, and YES his campaign has been effective, and has taken advantages of weakness in certain areas. But the political shenanigans IMO seem to bore him.  As you say, "nothing at stake." Perhaps because either one fits the purpose of filling a hole in the campaign.  The guy is no dummy, and given a quick recognition neither one would hurt him, its easy to move on to a "no dog in the hunt" posture.

    Actually . . . (none / 0) (#7)

. . . Rick Snyder was well aware that he loses a great deal in this race by alienating the Michigan Tea Party Alliance.

The MTPA insists on playing by two principles when it comes to conventions:

    1. Make sure sure that everyone with a reasonable opinion gets a fair chance to have their say.

    2. Make damn sure that the voting is done in a fair, proper, and secure manner.

Play by those two rules, and the tea party caucus will be perfectly okay with the outcome of the ballot box.  Snyder knows that.

The MTPA isn't upset with either Snyder or Calley.  The state party officers and convention officials, on the other hand . . . let's just say it's a different story there and leave it at that.
