    Hoekstra and TARP... (none / 0) (#22)
by retvet242 on Mon Jul 25, 2011 at 08:00:33 PM EST
Wasn't "Sherman Anti-Trust" enacted to prevent "too big to fail"???...remember ITT???...

Unless he admits to a grievous error in judgement, Mr. Hoekstra will spend his entire campaign running against (or trying to outrun) his TARP vote...kinda like "ObamneyCare"...

To quote the standard lame excuse, "Without TARP, the banking system would have collapsed."...and what exactly is it in the process of doing now???

    Press release . . . (none / 0) (#29)
by Kevin Rex Heine on Sun Jul 31, 2011 at 06:33:10 PM EST
. . . (via e-mail) from the Grassroots Conservatives for Hoekstra:

    Dear Michigan Conservative -

Today, we took a significant step toward defeating Debbie Stabenow and her job-killing agenda.

We launched Grassroots Conservatives for Hoekstra; a group of Michigan conservatives who want to make sure that Pete Hoekstra is our next United States Senator and today we want you to join us.

During his time in Congress, Pete Hoekstra didn't just talk the fiscal responsibility talk, he walked the walk, earning a lifetime American Conservative Union rating of 90 out of 100. Citizens Against Government Waste, a non-partisan organization whose mission is to eliminate waste, mismanagement, and inefficiency in the federal government, named Pete Hoekstra "a taxpayer hero" in 2009, saying, "Rep. Hoekstra put the interests of taxpayers ahead of politics by consistently voting to cut wasteful spending, reduce the tax burden, and make government more accountable to taxpayers."

That's not all though: Pete has always run his campaigns as a fiscal conservative, the candidate who is always able to do more with less. The first time he won, he rode his bicycle around his district meeting voters one at a time, and in his last campaign, he performed everyday jobs with everyday people.

We've got to stop Debbie Stabenow and Pete Hoekstra is the only Republican who can do it. Stabenow is rated as the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate.  She voted for ObamaCare and for higher taxes, and she's been in lockstep with Obama every step of the way as he's driven us into a 14 trillion dollar debt.  If grassroots conservatives like us get behind Pete Hoekstra right now, we can force Debbie Stabenow into retirement and deal a crushing blow to the Obama agenda.

One other thing: The Democrats only have a three-seat majority in the Senate now. There is almost no way that if they lose Debbie Stabenow, they can keep control of the Senate. In effect, control of the U.S. Senate is in Michigan's hands. This is our chance to replace liberals like Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer with real leaders like Sens. Jim DeMint and Mike Lee. We hope you will consider doing three things:

    1. Join us in endorsing Pete Hoekstra for U.S. Senate by signing this online petition and being a part of "Grassroots Conservatives for Hoekstra."

    2. Make an even bigger difference in firing Debbie Stabenow by forwarding this email to your email lists and urging your friends and co-patriots to also sign the petition.

    3. Debbie Stabenow already has $4 million for her campaign. Please click here to make a financial contribution to the Hoekstra campaign.
With your help, we will elect Pete Hoekstra, a true conservative, as our United States Senator and start the hard work of taking our country back.

    Sincerely,

    • Mike Bishop - Southeast Michigan
    • Bill Cooper - West Michigan
    • Jack Hoogendyk - Southwest Michigan
    • Linda Lee Tarver - Mid-Michigan
    • Wes Dilworth - Northern Michigan

    Co-Chairs, Grassroots Conservatives for Hoekstra

And to be honest with you, I recognize every single one of those signatories except for Mr. Dilworth.  The four I do recognize, I have a huge amount of respect for.  Hell, I put my own ass on the line for Bill Cooper about a year ago.  I also interviewed Linda Tarver with regard to her campaign for MIGOP Ethnic Vice-Chair; and I'm in semi-regular contact with Mr. Bishop and Mr. Hoogendyk.  Again, I have a huge amount of respect for all four of them.

However, the Independence Caucus of Michigan hasn't yet made an endorsement in this race, so I suspect that there will be very few tea partiers getting onboard this choo-choo train (except for the attention-whore opportunists).  That said, the I-Caucus will have a major announcement to make with regard to this race around about August 21st . . . so please stay tuned.

    Endorsement event . . . (none / 0) (#30)
by Kevin Rex Heine on Sun Jul 31, 2011 at 07:00:53 PM EST
    . . . this week.

I received an e-mail this morning from the Hoekstra Campaign that the Grassroots Conservatives for Hoekstra are hosting an endorsement event in Grand Rapids on Wednesday:

    Kent County Endorsement Event

A group of Kent County Republican leaders and grassroots activists is getting together with Pete Hoekstra to officially endorse his campaign to replace Debbie Stabenow in the United States Senate.

Please forward this invitation to Hoekstra supporters and attend this important event to show your support!

    Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011, starting at 12:00 p.m.
    Kent County Republican Headquarters
    725 Lake Michigan Drive NW
    Grand Rapids, MI - 49504

Please RSVP by e-mailing the campaign at pete@hoekstraforsenate.com

If you cannot attend the event but want to endorse Pete, Grassroots Conservatives for Hoekstra has an online petition.

Please also consider donating to the campaign.  Thank you for your support.

Paid for by Hoekstra for Senate

As I said in my previous comment, I really don't think that many tea partiers in central-west Michigan will be signing that petition until after the Independence Caucus of Michigan has made their endorsement.
