  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Green & White & Black Eyes

I have little to say about an extended leg held up to catch an ignorant number nine's mistaken place in the universe for those few seconds.

The MSU-Wisconsin game in its entirety was about as great a game played that I have seen recently.  The play was remarkable at times, and talent evident. Other than the take back from a toe in-bounds and a game changing catch, the officiating was semi-OK as well.  The loss of course disappointing, and a kick in the face darkening up the one eye that could still see.  A black eye of symmetry.

The other was from another hit to the head with the unique campaign of Herman Cain hitting the skids.

I would be lying to say that I was expecting him to quit.  As the initial claims of harassment were obviously a measure of the times they were made in, and the Bialick claim no doubt contrived by the Obama reelection camp,  it was strange to see yet another woman who had questionable mental and financial history being taken seriously enough to end Cain's campaign.

The take-away from this?  Not even sure.  It is certainly enough that Herman Cain's wife of 42 years had had enough. And not being used to the 24/7 anal exam given (only conservative) candidates by the media, said it was time to pack it in.  I suppose the other alternative is there was something to what the last woman said, except that from what I DO KNOW about Cain, his history, and listening to him speak, it seems more likely he was overly concerned for her welfare at one time, and may have been a financial benefactor too long.

In any event, as of this writing, news reports suggest that he may be endorsing Newt Gingrich as early as this afternoon.

If so?  No mas.  I'm down.

A Study of Ephialtes in Thermopylae

MSU has fallen to Progressivism like U of M.  What a damn shame.

Facing "Islamophobia" and widespread hostility, Muslim Americans have adopted cultural techniques to make their voices heard, according to Michigan State University faculty set to use a grant to conduct a yearlong study of Islam-inflected culture.

MSU's Muslim Studies Program and Asian Studies Center were recently awarded $100,000 from the Social Science Research Council for "Migrations of Islam."

And that "migration" is noted with the creeping sharia in our American Courts.

    Good luck, Sparty...

8AM rules committee thing tomorrow.. Some are concerned it will be designed to favor particular candidates.  Hopefully on the up and up.  Chairing it will be Jason Allen.  Fair play gentlemen, is key to restoring trust within the party.  You cannot afford to blow this opportunity, and you may.

Betty Weaver is on the Bus..  What I find to be a strange event, is the appearance of Elizabeth Weaver at our Traverse city Pick up Spot for the Glenn Beck Restoring Honor Rally Bus heading to DC.  Had the pleasure of an hour long conversation between GR and Okemos, where she boarded the bus to head to the event.  Apparently a big Beck fan.

Robo Calls suck..  No fewer than 20 Robo calls a day as a reward for becoming a precinct delegate.  Bill Schuette, Michelle McManus and Mike Bishop topped the list. Question.. Do we have a THIRD alternative to the AG nod?

Non identified emails, and fake websites set up to encourage voting by delegates.. THEMICHIGANREPORT.COM is as fake as reporting blogs go.  Anyone who cannot put their name or normally used moniker on their work is hardly worth paying attention to.  FAIL.

If you can't say something nice... talk basketball

Its all good news this morning.  All good news all the time.  I refuse to dwell on anything else because if I don't focus on the positive right now, I swear to high heaven, something valuable is going to get broken.  (There are certain kinds of stress, I'll admit, I've never learned to handle appropriately.)

And so we focus on sunshine and rainbows.  Like, for instance, this week the big-shot politicians in Lansing will start figuring out how to spend $625 million of our grandkids money to repair those potholes that put such a serious crimp in yesterday's trip to church.

Yeah, yeah, spending our grandkids money might not make the most economic sense but c'mon, nobody likes pot holes!  Plus, they're spending so much to make these road repairs, if push comes to shove they can actually fill each pot hole with stacks of twenty dollar bills.  So that's a win-win.

Good news... good news... Monica Conyers arch-enemy on the Detroit City Council is going to run for Mayor of Detroit this August.  Good old Kwame Kenyatta.  (Apparently rumors of the man's impending cancer-related death were greatly exaggerated by the Council President.)

That's... something.  But even better, according to the Detroit News, he's one of more than 50 (FIFTY) some odd candidates whose names might appear on the ballot.

And by "might appear" I mean over 50 have already grabbed the paperwork to file.  Not rumors, not speculation... 50+ are already starting the legal process.  Guess how many are going to wind up filing as Republicans.  Go ahead... guess.

Talk about a crowded field.  Somebody should work up some brackets and we could run those elections NCAA Tournament style, then instead of cutting down the nets, the ultimate winner could take the first shift re-roofing Cobo Hall with city cash since they refuse to take any money from the state.  Oh, wait, they don't have any cash to stop the leaks... shoot.

But, seriously, in happier news, big ups to the Michigan State Spartans and the University of Michigan Wolverines men's basketball teams on their selection to the NCAA tournament beginning this Thursday!  Start working on those faux-coughs and sniffles around the office today or tomorrow, gentlemen, because come 11:30AM-ish on the 19th we're in for four days of pure, unadulterated madness.

This is Michigan's first trip to the tournament in a decade and Maize and Blue fans are pretty geeked today.  They should be extra excited about their first round draw, too, matching up against a tough but beatable Clemson team.  At that point you're only a sterling game away from the Sweet 16.

And the Spartans?  A well deserved 2.  Casa De Leeuw will undoubtedly have competing brackets this year with some picking the Green and White to win the whole thing and others playing the homer-role and picking those guys from Ann Arbor to run the table.  Silly Wolverine fans.

That said, it should give me a clear path to the family pick-em championship and THAT, my friends, is good news.
