    Lot of Thought (none / 0) (#2)
by Rougman on Tue Nov 17, 2009 at 11:24:18 AM EST
Obviously a lot of thought and effort went into this post.  I appreciate you laying out a potential play by play when an opportunity to debate comes up.

I have had some success in painting health care as one of the pursuit rights rather than an inalienable right.  It is most often the inalienable right argument that is being made by those on the left.  We all have the inalienable right to free speech, etc., because that right comes from the creator directly to the people and government has no hand in its offer or receipt.

Leftists are generally too emotional (and dunderheaded) to recognize that a right to health care necessitates the active involvement of a third party, in this case the government.  It therefore cannot be, by definition, an inalienable right as the Founding Fathers intended.

Beyond that the arguments tend to simply degrade into one of emotion and I think I'd rather go shoot craps than listen to some ninny whine to me about his sore bunions and the evil insurance companies.  Believe me, if these people cannot be convinced of their errors in about thirty seconds they will most likely end up dying the same ignoramus they were when they first gasped air.  I'm better off demonstrating to a 17 year old how economics works and the vision of our Founding Fathers than wasting more than two breaths on indoctrinated leftists dealing only with emotion and last night's NPR newscast.  After all, I have my own mental health to worry about too.

One thing that I find kind of interesting is that while health care is considered by many to be a natural right even though it is never referred to in the founder's documents, those on the left go nuts when individuals attempt to keep and bear arms, which is specifically an inalienable right.  If these bozos had the same attitude about guns that they have about health care, the citizenry would all be taxed so that I could be presented with a shiny new .38.

Somehow I don't think that is going to happen.

    Again, thanks for the post.
