After a couple years along came Lafarge, cleaned it up, tore down old buildings, completely turned it around - all with non-union employees. I have several family members and friends working there who love it.  Although the downturn in the construction industry is killing the operations right now (along with my employer and line of business) they are a good employer and contribute greatly to the local economy.
