    Don't know about Tom, but (none / 0) (#3)

I know some had the understanding they would not be able to get ANY version of the bill unless they agreed to Richardville's demands.   It never would have come back in their form.

    Tough call I guess.

    my take (none / 0) (#4)
by Tom McMillin on Sat Oct 08, 2011 at 11:21:26 AM EST
KG - my take?  well, this may sound like just another politician...but i need to be careful, because i'd like some of my ideas/bills to get through the senate in the coming months.
let's just say that the way the bill was sent over to the senate (through the committee i chair), taking the benefit away from all current members of both chambers, was what we wanted for sure.
and it is a fact that this issue has been batted around lansing for the last decade, with each chamber able to vote to eliminate the benefit, but with differences so no bill ever became law.  hard to say what would have happened if we changed it back and sent it over....its, um...hard to say.  now that everyone got to vote "yes" on elimination in varying forms, it is possible, that it would have not come back to the House.  Now...its on the Gov's desk.  I'm glad i was able to vote to eliminate my benefits.  i do feel bad for the third termers in the House - most/all of whom wanted to eliminate for themselves, but they didn't get to.  They still, however, can decline the ten-year benefit when they turn 55.
