    I'm a precinct delegate . . . (none / 0) (#4)
by Kevin Rex Heine on Thu Feb 23, 2012 at 11:54:27 PM EST
. . . and right now I'm doing "voter identification" calls on behalf of the party.  (Of the 1,483 registered voters in my precinct, 282 are considered "unidentified.")  For the most part, I get at least a civil response when I call around to my neighbors, and most are comfortable with very quickly knocking out the 15-question survey.

One of my neighbors asked me if there was any benefit to talking to me; my response was that, if I do my job right, then it'll cut down pretty significantly on the number of robocalls and campaign mailers she receives.

The drawback is that, for every robocall and mailer my neighbors get, I get five.  Apparently candidates love an active and engaged precinct delegate, and believe that saturating my mailbox will persuade me to reach out to my neighborhood on their behalf.  I don't mind it too much, as I'm perfectly capable of routing the junk into my Paper Gator box, and deleting voicemail messages.
