Pro-Lifers in the 7th Congressional District Need to Stand Strong for Rep. Tim Walberg

The "big news" this week coming out of the 2008 race for the House seat in Michigan's 7th Congressional District is that pro-abortion Sharon Renier is baaack - and this time I am actually glad to see her.  Let me explain.

Although expected, Renier, this week, officially jump-started her campaign to become the Democratic candidate to face pro-life, Republican freshman - and my congressman - Rep. Tim Walberg.  If successful, this would be Renier's third general election race for the seat in the last four years (she lost to Joe Schwartz in 2004 and Walberg in 2006).

Yet, it is likely that Renier will not get the nod this time, since the Michigan Democratic Party is hedging its bets on a much more high profile candidate, hard-core pro-abortion State Senator Mark Schauer.  Schauer is the Michigan Senate's Democratic minority leader who recently led some of the abortion industry's other politician-puppets in voting against Michigan's fourth attempt to outlaw partial-birth abortion - the cruelest form of abortion ever devised.

While Schauer is probably going to be the Democratic nominee in the fall, he will have Renier nipping at his heels until August.  As those two publically argue about such issues as who is more committed to promoting the abortion industry's agenda, pro-lifers in the 7th District need to rally around Congressman Walberg through every means possible in order to get him re-elected this fall.

Congressman Walberg is a pro-life champion.  At this year's annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., Walberg was only one of two Michigan congressmen who addressed the crowd at the pre-March rally.  On that cold day, I was proud to personally hear Walberg's voice tell me, and the tens of thousands of other pro-lifers gathered, that Michigan's Senate had just passed the aforementioned ban on partial-birth abortion.

    Read on. . .

Congressman Walberg is one of those seemingly rarest of rare birds these days - a politico who is a true believer in the cause for restoring legal protection to the unborn who is not afraid to stick his neck on the line.

I am proud to say that Congressman Walberg is one of the few politicians that has coaxed a financial contribution out of me in the past (a small - very small - financial contribution, I must admit!).  Nonetheless, now that I am actually residing within the 7th District's boundaries for the first time since Walberg began campaigning for the 7th District's House seat in 2004, I am planning to run for a precinct delegate position in this August's GOP primary. In this way, I hope to take a more active role in turning out "the base" for Walberg in this year's crucial general election.

And the base needs to turn out en mass for Walberg, if he is going to defeat a well-funded puppet of the abortion industry, Senator Schauer. As a result of Walberg's lifetime dedication to defending the rights of the unborn, he has been maliciously attacked by members of the "mainstream" media and anonymous, cowardly bloggers in cyberspace.  The latter group even runs a whole blog dedicated to smearing Congressman Walberg by promoting false rumors and innuendo.

Personally, I believe that if a person cannot sign his or her name to something in cyberspace, then their "information" (or commentary, for that matter) is pretty much useless.  Unfortunately, cyber-cowardliness runs rampant, especially on the Left, and the attacks on Congressman Walberg will only get worse as this (already) lengthy election cycle drags on to its final conclusion in November.

What I really like about Walberg is that he seems to share my personal political philosophy, which can be boiled down into these few simplistic sentences:

This is where I stand on the life issues (firmly pro-life).  These are my friends and supporters (pro-lifers and all people of good will).  This is our agenda (to promote the pro-life cause).  Either you're with us or in our way.

    As I said: pretty simple.

In the final analysis, with solid pro-life support in the conservative 7th Congressional District, I am confident that Congressman Walberg will best, and confound, his opponents yet again!
