Urgent Action Alert: Vote on Partial Birth Abortion Ban Could Come Today (With Your Help)!

Progress?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  Earlier this week Lansing based Citizens for Traditional Values sent out an email encouraging folks to contact a few specific State Reps to ask them to support Senate Bill 776, the ban on partial birth abortion.  If you're not on CTV's list A) you should be and B) APackof2 posted it for everyone to see here.

According to the email Andy Dillon personally delivered a promise to Right to Life of Michigan's Barb Listing that a vote would come this week.  That would be today or tomorrow.

So much for that... like I said... maybe.  Lansing insider publication MIRS reported last night that

The mood on the House floor today did not appear conducive with taking a vote this week on the partial birth abortion ban...

776 may be on the calendar but that doesn't mean anything's going to get done.  Given the House Democrats recent track record of obstruction on this issue it's pretty likely it won't.

This isn't the first or even the second time that supposedly pro-life House Democrats have abandoned their posts and knelt at the alter of abortion industry.  Dillon, the RTL endorsed Speaker of the House took hold of SB776 all the way back in January and buried it in committee.  Three months later when pro-life constituents packed the chamber to demand action the House Democrat caucus literally ran and hid... for hours.

The obstruction on the part of Right to Life endorsees continued late last week when Speaker Pro Tem Mike Sak repeatedly used parliamentary tricks to prevent the legislation from coming to a vote.

And so here we sit again with the House Democrats.  Big on promises and short on delivery.

While Right to Life continues negotiating behind closed doors to get this life-saving legislation through the pro-life House there's something we can do too.  RTL doesn't appear willing at this point to pull endorsements from the obstructionists but that doesn't mean we have to like their pro-abort behavior.  And we certainly don't have to take it lying down.

Below you'll find a list of each of the House Democrats who proudly claim the Right to Life of Michigan stamp of approval.  These are men and women who don't just claim to want to protect innocent babies, they've convinced RTLM of their sincerity.  Please take five minutes today to fire off an email to each of them.  And if you live in one of their districts, give them a phone call too.

I've got it on good authority that they're meeting as a mini-caucus this afternoon.  They need to hear from us!

Tell them it's time to put up or shut up.  You can claim you're pro-life all day long but that sort of claim requires action.  It's time to move Senate Bill 776.
