I know candidates work very hard to get their message out to the voters. They do literature drops, going door-to-door, mailings, phone calls, etc. Then, some even try to get free media through the press. They try to come up some clever message and then try to hold a press conference. Typically, you pick a nice location that has public access, like your local city hall. Then you go out and make some big poster board to serve as a back drop for the conference. And then, you send a notice out to the local media informing them of your intentions. Read on...
Thats what Sarah Roberts tried to do. She is the Democrat running for State Representative in St Clair Shores and Harrison Township in Macomb County. She was to hold a press conference at the St. Clair Shores City Hall today to announce something. We know she notified the city officials that there was going to be a press conference. The city council members were aware she was going to do this. You would think that she would have informed the press about it.
One problem was: No one from the press showed up. Not the Detroit Free Press or the Detroit News. Each of them have a Macomb Office, but didn't seem to send anyone. The Macomb Daily wasn't there or even the weekly local paper, the Shores Sentinel. And, the Sentinel will at least send a photographer to take a picture. Not even one of those cute kids from the scholastic news service. But, some other people did show up. There were two of her former Democratic primary opponents who came. They still don't like her very much (no party unity there). She never did say what she was going to talk about. After waiting for 30 minutes for press representatives that would never come, Roberts and her campaign packed up and left without a word to those who did show up. Perhaps next time, Roberts will let those of us here at RightMichigan know about her next press conference. I can pledge I will at least show up and write about it, whether she talks or not.
