Michigan reported the nation's highest unemployment rate at 15.3 percent. It was followed by Nevada at 13.3 percent, Rhode Island at 13 percent, California at 12.2 percent and South Carolina at 11.6 percent.

Overall, 23 states reported higher unemployment numbers but this figure is misleading because the numbers do not include the unemployed that are no longer looking for work.

Some of the states that lost jobs still saw their unemployment rates decline, as discouraged workers gave up looking for work. People who are out of work but no longer looking for jobs aren't counted as officially unemployed.
That trend was evident nationwide in September, as nearly 600,000 people dropped out of the work force, the department reported earlier this month.

before Bush took office. Those running for local, state, and federal office need to be able to address these and other typical accusations. They must be aware of the need to not be left looking like a foolish child as some did in the recent Sunday rounds with Granholm. They can't look like they've been so busy with girlfriends or getting elected that they're not prepared for the issues and arguments that will be presented. We deserve better then that!

I'm sorry but we don't need another loser. We know there will be class warfare, race baiting, innuendo, education, health, high taxes to help people, et al. These things can't be avoided and blown off because the cat has the tongue in various situations and presentations. This stuff has to be immediately addressed and articulated 360 different ways...or go home.
