I have been following a story that has been ongoing here in Rogers City and have posted parts to the story on this blog.  Starting with Part 1, I began chronologically detailing what has transpired so far in this small under-served town.  Between the local and nation-wide environmentalists and the concerned citizenry, it has proved to be very entertaining, enlightening and dramatic.

It is a very long and ongoing story.  I have been asked a few times to synthesize it, but until the story is over, I am afraid all I can do is post links to the 20 parts of the story so far.  I have created a page on my blog with those links.

Another part will be posted on Saturday about an environmentalist from the Traverse City area named Tom Karas.  He is demanding to know the cost of the plant and is showing up to the Presque Isle Electric and Gas Co-op annual meeting this Friday.  He editorialized in this week's Advance saying, "PIE&G members need to decide how much economic pain they are willing to suffer if they allow this proposal to move forward."

PIE&G serves the county's electric needs and Wolverine Clean Energy Venture (a part of PIE&G) is proposing the plant.

No answer to questions about lies, I mean mistakes (none / 0) (#2)

in the 'An Inconvenient Truth', such as is found by following the money, I mean following the twelve trees.

There is no attempt to answer these questions either.

I add another question: Even when they throw in the Ginsu knives for FREE, isn't our gov't full of tricks and hypocrisy? Doesn't a lack of mineral rights by property OWNERS tie into this? I remember reading (several years back) about property owners in Colorado being upset because they didn't realize the gov't has those rights. Talk about not reading the small print! The gov't can drill when/where it wants. The gov't can pay other countries to drill. Why is this and what does it mean? It's certainly not about the environment.

Karas has kindred spirits in Canada (none / 0) (#5)

Here is a quote from an article in the Toronto Sun that I linked to the other day:
He's using taxpayers' money to massively subsidize wind -- paying 13.5 cents per kilowatt hour for electricity generated from wind turbines (19 cents for offshore projects) compared to the normal cost of generation of four to five cents.

Wind companies are scrambling to cash in, building and proposing thousands of turbines across Ontario, massive steel structures as high as 40 storeys.

The province has been flooded with so many applications for offshore wind farms that Natural Resources Minister Donna Cansfield announced last week it won't consider any more until next year, just so it can catch up on the paperwork.

Alarmingly, Ontario's mad rush to embrace renewable energy sources that aren't viable without massive public subsidies and are incapable, given current technology, of supplying "on demand" power to the grid, is being led by the same two politicians, McGuinty and Energy Minister George Smitherman, mainly responsible for the $1 billion eHealth boondoggle. (Smitherman used to be health minister.)

Ya...I can't wait until the people in northern Michigan get to pay triple the amount for the undependable green energy that Karas is in favor of.
