Borrowing and Spending and Spending Some More

The numbers are so mind-boggling, sometimes I wonder if they could even be right.

For some perspective, the entire budget for the State of Michigan in one year is about $45 billion.  That is money for things like public education, prisons, and roads.

In Washington, DC though that is chump change.

First, in January of this year Congress passed a $787 billion "stimulus" bill.  That bill spent money we don't have on everything from ant research to new toilets and on thousands of checks to dead people and convicted felons.

Then, Congress passed President Obama's budget which calls for $9 trillion in NEW debt over ten years.  That's a doubling of the already staggering $12 trillion national debt accumulated since America's founding.  According to this budget, by 2020, each man, woman and child would owe $150,000 in debt.

Just when you thought maybe that was enough, the U.S. House passed a $2 trillion "cap and trade" bill that would cap emissions of carbon dioxide and trade carbon credits on Wall Street.  President Obama said this proposal would cause electricity rates to "necessarily skyrocket."

Then, Speaker Pelosi passed her $1.6 trillion government takeover of health care.

My Democrat friends weren't even close to being finished though.  Last week, they passed a massive, 2,500 page annual spending bill that increased spending 14% over last year.  Last I checked, the people who are paying for this increase (taxpayers) aren't seeing 14% more money in their paychecks from last year.  (If they still have a paycheck).

President Obama and Speaker Pelosi also announced plans last week to spend money from the Wall Street bailout that the banks are now repaying.  That money would just go to reduce the $1.5 trillion deficit for this year right?  No.  On more "stimulus" just like the last one.

This week Democrats passed an increase to the debt ceiling, allowing them to borrow and spend even more money we don't have on things that don't work.

All of this borrowing and spending happened in less than one year's time.  And all of it is staggering and downright frightening.  America's AAA bond rating is in jeopardy.  President Obama and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton have each traveled to China to reassure America's largest debt holder.  Money is moving from the U.S. dollar into commodities, artificially making things like oil more expensive.

The next time I see House Speaker Nancy Pelosi or another Democrat leader in Washington, DC, I'll invite them up to Michigan to meet real people who live within their means, play by the rules and are begging their elected officials to do the same.

    Spending Like Drunkards (none / 0) (#2)

It just boggles my mind!  Billions is no longer a dirty word - it is a drop in the bucket that is going to completey drown our kids and grandkids for years to come.

I also get a kick out of Obama chastising banks about borrowing to small business so they can "hire" people.  I just finished November month end and it was our worst month ever.  Year to date we are down 38% in sales.  I work for a small business with 8 full time employees.  We serve over 800 customers, who like us, are small businesses, and in the same boat with very severe losses of revenue.  Why in the hell would they borrow money to hire new people?  For What?  There are no jobs, no jobs to be bid or anything coming down the pike that looks like work.  We are supposed to hire people to sit on their ass and twittle their thumbs? What is going to happen is half of our staff is going to be laid off after the first of the year. You cannot sustain a business with losses like we are incurring.  And our 800, yes 800 Michigan businesses, are looking at the same bleak numbers!

It is now very obvious that this president and his administration have no clue whatsoever what it is like to be Joe Six Pack let alone run a business.

you seem to be on the correct path.
Somewhere it was written, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions!"  But those Big Spender ingrates in Washington D.C. who have and are spending our children and grandchildrens futures away do NOT have "good intentions" in mind for U.S.!  Schauer, Stabenow, Levin, Obama and others are deliberately stealing the futures from future generations of Americans for their own selfish reasons, power, power and power!  Counting future unfunded mandates of 102 Trillion dollars, plus a 12 Trillion dollar national debt, plus 1.5 Trillion a year in Healthcare Takeover costs plus 1.5 Trillion a year in Global Warming wealth transfers to "developing" countries we, our kids and their kids and their kids and on and on are in debt to the tune of $390,000.00 EACH into infinity.  What kind of life do our decendents have to look forward to when they are in debt $390,000.00 at birth!  The shame of it is this didn't have to happen.
The good news is we can turn this around but the turn around must start with educating the public that Americans must start making things here in America that people here in America and around the world want to buy for a price that Americans and people around the world can afford to pay!  We MUST make it happen!  We gotta' figure it out!

Governments; Federal, State and local have been and are sucking the life out American businesses at an unpresidented pace.  In fact, government is now competing against businesses in all kinds of businesses from Banking, insurance and cars to employment with Work First.  Also Government taxes businesses so that Government can loan or give that tax money to other start up businesses that compete against the business that government taxed in first place.  2-3-5 years later either the taxed business goes out of business or the business given the tax money to start up goes out of business.  Tax money wasted!
Govenment! Quit it!  Let business start manufacturing things that people here and around the world want to buy for a price that people here and around the world can afford to pay!  Light bulbs, brooms, clothing, cars, anything!  Government, let it happen!  Let business put people back to work!
