Breaking - Stupak on Health Care

Congressman Bart Stupak on the Ron Jolly show describes the communications between himself and others, including those who are FOR and AGAINST the health care reform.  He is suggesting the Senate bill is unacceptable to the house membership.

"you can't put one state above the others and expect other states to support it.."

"conferencing with the Senate we're going to conference with this bill and Senate is telling us they only have 60 votes so [expect to sign on to the Senate bill..]" "that's not going to happen.."

Stupak says when asked if he would "take one for the party" with the abortion issue; "No.. this is about Principle"

    Principle..

Principle.. Yet he in the interview, the tenor of his argument suggested he is quite willing to proceed with health care legislation sans the funding of abortion.  Principle.. He did not suggest that people should not be coerced into buying health care.  Principle.. He did not suggest any opposition to a "public option" being created.  Principle.. At no time did he offer any common sense solutions such as tort reform or opening borders to real competition with health insurers.

The best thing that can happen right now is to have the breaking legislators get calls from their constituents to a degree that stops this plan COLD.  Something that might get us into the next session which promises to be a little more [mentally] balanced.

    Interview (none / 0) (#1)
by Rougman on Wed Dec 30, 2009 at 12:27:53 PM EST
I happened to catch a part of a Stupak interview with WCMU on my drive home from Lansing yesterday.  He said nothing in the interview that made me feel confident in his vote against this monstrosity.  He is confident that the proper wording can be found that he will be comfortable with allowing him to vote for the bill.

I wonder how long it will take a federal judge somewhere to toss out the abortion restrictions being placed in this bill once it is passed, effectively making Bart's whole position moot but also allowing him to slough the blame off onto someone else.  He seems to have a lot more confidence in the lunatics sitting on the 5th circuit than I do.

He is disgusted by the idea that some Senators were willing to sell their votes for the bounty that might be heaped on their individual states, but he seems to have had no such remorse for this same tactic when it comes to bailout bills, omnibus packages, or any earmarks that he finds getting steered into his district.

If Bart really cared about the abortion issue he would vote against it for what it will turn into after it is passed. If he really cared about political prostitution he would have made a principled stand against it earlier in his career. His orchestrations at this point on "principles" are little more than window dressing.

    Rougman, I couldn't agree more. (none / 0) (#2)

JGillman, thank you for the article. Though it's been a busy time for me, know that your efforts are appreciated.

I trust everyone had a blessed Christmas.

May everyone grow evermore fearless and faithful in the year ahead.

    God bless one and all!

    Stupak will fall (none / 0) (#3)

Stupak will fall for rhetoric from the party leaders and vote party not policy.  Every time I hear him speak - it is very carefully worded not passionate about his stance.  Typical politician speaking out of both sides of his mouth.  They can throw millions at him for our state and he will cry and whine and then the carefully worded amendment that will be made up to shut him up will be placed in the bill and all will be just hunky dory for his vote.
