Police officials spoke on condition of anonymity about the incident because of the potential political sensitivity involved. According to one police source, Mews alleged Conyers arrived at a party at the bar and began asking patrons to buy her a drink. When no one did, she approached a man at the bar and said, "I know you're going to buy me a drink," the source said, citing Mews' police report. Mews, who was with the man at the bar, wasn't pleased, and the two women began to fight, the report said. The women each say the other struck first.

You'll note in the video that schoolchildren later took Conyers to school, as it were, for her boorish behavior. Unfortunately, that's not the worst of it. How about this one:

"An aide to Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick filed a police report Thursday claiming Monica Conyers, the short-tempered city council president pro tem and wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers threatened to get a gun and shoot him at a city pension board meeting."

During the Democrat Convention in Denver this past August, Conyers was involved in a "hotel disturbance:"

Berry said Conyers complained that the original room she was given Monday night could not accommodate her family and she became upset when staff members tried to remove Conyers' belongings from the suite.

Denver police issued the following statement to Local 4: "A dispute took place and our officers responded to the hotel. We are told hotel guests became upset by the loud outbursts. No charges were filed, but additional officers were called to help control congressman Conyers wife, Monica."

Our reporting partners at the Detroit News are reporting that the FBI has electronic surveillance that links Detroit City Council President Pro Tem Monica Conyers to the Synagro scandal.

The evidence reportedly proves that Conyers received either a payment or payments in connection with the city-approved sludge contract Conyers was a vocal opponent of the $47 million a year Synagro contract, but changed her position and eventually voted for the deal when it passed by 5-4 vote in November.

Incidentally, corruption runs in the family. John Conyer's (NOT the savior of the human race in the "Terminator" series, quite the opposite) staff was caught stealing 60 turkeys from a charity in late 2004 before they (the turkeys, not the staff) were distributed to the poor:

The director of a Detroit food bank wants to know what happened to 60 turkeys -- 720 pounds of frozen birds -- that his charity gave to members of U.S. Rep. John Conyers' local staff two days before Thanksgiving to give to needy people.

Conyers' Detroit office promised an accounting of any turkey distribution by Dec. 27, but the Gleaners Community Food Bank had received no paperwork as of Tuesday, said the charity's director, Agostinho Fernandes.

Fernandes said he became suspicious that the turkeys didn't get to poor people after hearing from a friend that a federal court worker had said he was offered free turkeys from a member of Conyers' staff.

Three former aides have now complained about his habit of forcing them to become his personal servants. Conyers even ordered one of them to live in his Detroit house and take care of his kids while his wife took classes in Oklahoma.
