Time To Stop Fooling Around "Leader" Richardville

The schizophrenic nature of our state government comes as no surprise.

Republicans who have been around and 'know better' are in the positions of power and are no wiser than the Democrats who have just been given the boot.  Creatures accustomed to things done a certain way are hardly the agents of change Michigan so desperately needs.

One would think the taking of Michigan's most important institutions would have set free a newly inspired animal of renewal and dominance.  Sadly however, what appears is a timid beast too scared to fully emerge from its cage, seeking the quickest route back to being walled in where it is safe and secure.  Our legislators are riding along in some ways toward new ways of dealing with problems that have been building for decades, yet some of them who have been around too long seem to have a serious case of Stockholm syndrome and sympathize with the enemy a little too much. In fact, to the point of being called "Squishy":

Led by squishy moderate Randy Richardville, Senate Republicans have always been suspect as a reform ally. And their counter-proposal is a retreat from their mandate for change. Rather than pushing their governor - who has courageously offered a new direction - to be even more aggressive on tax reform and bloated union benefits, the GOPers backslide towards politics-as-usual higher taxes and special interest loopholes.

Indeed, I have written before about the cowardice that exists within the republican leadership in the Senate for not bringing a simple fix to Michigan.  And yes..  I said it, and I will again if necessary.

Snyder has had the door open to a number of fixes that are possible RIGHT NOW, that may not be available after this year.  He has also left open the door to better solutions than what he has personally proposed, yet the "backsliding" moderates still seem to come about their marching orders from a need to be liked, get elected or to not appear "extreme."

    Too bad.

Its also too bad Snyder isn't a little more politically savvy, and has failed to recognize what really happened in November.  As mentioned, he too, could have found a rallying point with the inclusion of right-to-work in his busting out agenda.  Placing it as a priority was not his thing, and not for Richardville either I imagine.   Yet if ONE of them made the move, it would be solidarity from the house through the senate in no time.  Unfortunately we still have each one of them looking around and whistling, hoping SOMEONE would pull the trigger and take a little heat.
Did I say what I think of that?

Hello, Republicans?  You aren't prisoners anymore.  You guys left over from the "moderate way won't scare the voters" days ought to go to the coat check to see if you accidentally left your kohonies in a jacket pocket.  Its not cool to run back to the bad guys lair once you have broke free, like a horse running from a burning barn.  Its time to break down those prisons that held you.  Its time to return to real life.

And Mr LEADER?  Snap out of it sunshine.  I am not a psychiatrist but I know it when I see it.

You don't want Michigan to change very much, do you? You LIKE the confines the left has set up for us.

If not, then change. If it makes sense, then DO IT.  Stop worrying about what the newspapers think.  Stop worrying about the money that will be spent by labor to unseat you.  If you cannot understand the consequence of standing and staring down the oncoming train without moving off the tracks, then maybe you deserve to be run over anyhow.

Feeling sorry for the unions will not help the workers of this state.  Feeling sorry for the workers of this state won't help either.  Understanding that we will be FORCED to make draconian cuts or risk chasing out more Michiganders is a requirement now.  Not because I say so, but because it is the truth.

Take 15 minutes and consider what Gary Glenn had to say at the 2011 MiCPAC conference below, on the subject of RTW.  Invest a lousy quarter of an hour to see how that thing you fear might well turn out to be a hero's standard. I'll offer the first bar of "For he is a jolly good fellow" if it helps you get there even.

Right to work is not the end of unions, it just makes them accountable.  It doesn't make them go away, it just makes them better.  Your keepers have been lying to you.

    Lying.

But then maybe its not Stockholm syndrome.  Maybe just being an 'honest collaborator', or perhaps someone who puts his own future outside of politics ahead of his job.  Maybe its just a scared little girl who just doesn't want to face the fact that this state is in trouble.  In the kind of trouble that requires bold and decisive adult actions.  Actions that requires a little more testosterone than what currently seems available in the Senate leadership position.

Unless its already in the works, I would suggest you man up, Randy Sue, its time to move the markers.
