I want Dave Camp to enter the US Senate race.

And there is no question about it. The MIGOP critters want Dave Camp to enter the US Senate race. In fact they are even 'beastly' about it:

"Camp is now seriously considering jumping into the race at the behest of power-brokers back home, according to sources familiar with the congressman's thinking. A small but influential group of Michigan GOP leaders has cranked up the heat on Camp, making the case that he could appeal to independents statewide and win the seat. Camp, they say, has been increasingly receptive to their appeals.

"He's been getting a tremendous amount of encouragement from leaders and donors around the state," former Michigan GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis said. "If you hear enough of that, it becomes tough to ignore." Noting Camp's newfound openness to the idea, Anuzis added: "I'm really bullish.""

    By golly we agree.

Yes, I want Dave Camp to run for US Senate.

    But For different reasons.

    Continued below the fold. ~

Camp has been around a long time.  He has headed the house ways-and-means committee to the point of terming out.  He has held his seat in congress solidly, with little chance of being removed for several terms, and if he wanted to, he would easily hold his congressional seat for yet another term even with the challenge from constitutional conservative Peter Konetchy.

By God, in a remarkable symbolic gesture, he even dumped a load of meat and poultry in former governor Jennifer Granholm's face!

"Camp's office reports the passage of H. Res. 1199, naming March 20, 2010, (today) as "National American Meat and Poultry Appreciation Day."

As most of you might know, Jennifer Granholm, Michigan's executive wrecking ball recently declared the 20th 2010 as "meat-out day" snubbing the agriculture community in Michigan and elsewhere by posturing her far left ideology."

With a slick move like that added on his resume, whats not to like?

Heck, take away the TARP VOTE and he is nearly perf.. Hmm, maybe we hide the Cash for clunkers vote in 2009 as well.  That pretty much sets him as a solid cons.. Uhhm, OK, OK, expanding the Department of Energy, and the expansion of the Americorp program to give the president his newest internal 'army' MIGHT not be so praiseworthy, but at least he put a cap on the debt limit ..

    Oh. Crap.

How about Education, and head start? Not constitutional?  Then what of CISPA? Who needs their 4th amendment rights anyhow?  Can I get an "Oh Yeah"? ..Koolaid.

Debt limit increase then. Surely he voted against ALL and any debt limits.  Surely the recognition that federal debt that exceeds our GDP is a bad thing would keep him from allowing it to happen? No? Then I'll bet he at least TRIED to strip out unconstitutional departments like the Department of Energy, the EPA, the Department of Education, and HUD,  And at the very least, the process to defund Obamacare has started with Congressman Camp's insistence, right?

    He hasn't even tried?

No I guess he has not.

Well then, it seems Dave Camp should still run for US senate.

The fact is, it advances the conversation of conservatism.  Obviously, the push for Camp by the MIGOP elitists suggests they have less desire to see Terri Lynn Land occupy the seat. Land, who has won statewide races previously would seem an obvious choice for those who merely wish to see a Republican win, yet the party 'leadership' with a still stinging welt on its ass from a couple of conventions ago, is escalating its tantrum.  It(they) has(have) no interest in rewarding such impetuous behavior.  Does Land not understand that it was not and IS NOT her turn?

Camp will likely lose in the primary, and that is just fine.  If he somehow overpowers Land in the primary with his super charismatic persuasion, 84% conservative (over-rated and laughable) ACU rating, and pathetic constitutional record, then he will lose in the general election ala John Mcain, Mitt Romney or Pete Hoekstra (who is arguably MORE conservative than Camp).

Yes, we should welcome Camp's entry into the US Senate race.

Perhaps if only to advance his removal from public 'service', and make room for someone who might have the courage to act constitutionally.
