    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Michigan has a future.

A future that relies on real individual choice, and freedom of association, as well as protection to make that choice in the workplace.

As this posting is made, several news conferences will be made throughout Michigan simultaneously, with a couple more following up at 3PM.  The Freedom to work coalition, a grass roots effort to bring liberty back to the workplace is announcing its intent to see Michigan as the first Right-To-Work state in the great lakes basin.  This means JOBS.

NEWS CONFERENCES ARE BEING HELD TODAY
    Thursday, June 30, 2011

Announcing the formation of Michigan Freedom to Work, a statewide coalition to promote passage of a state civil rights law guaranteeing that all employees are free to choose whether to join or financially support a labor union, without facing the threat of being discriminated against or fired based on that choice.

Right To Work Statistics - Disposable Cash

The last post on this should have been challenged.  While it was true it has little bearing in the end.  Being affected by how many folks you pack into a house, shared expenses in other ways etc., really play more into the whole bang for the buck thing.  Cut your expenses, and whatever it is that you bring in goes a bit farther.  Michigan still has higher cost of living than other states, and particularly as compared to states with freedom to work laws.

I am not sure about all of the whys, but it is consistent when averaged.  People in Right-to-Work states have more coin, bread, bucks, capital, cash, scratch, chips, coin, coinage, dough, greenbacks, or gravy when the day is done.  By nearly $2,000 average.

Disposable income higher in Right to Work states

Employees enjoy higher income, lower cost of living in Right to Work states

Cost of Living-Adjusted Per Capita Disposable Personal Income
    (2009)

    Right to Work States . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $35,543
    Forced-Unionism States . . . . . . . . . . . . . $33,389

Right To Work Statistics - Higher Income!

Often the argument against Right-To-Work laws is a flippant "Oh yeah .. Right to work for less" type of response.  Many of those who say that might actually believe it, but the truth is far different.

Personal income is higher in Right to Work states

Yessiree, employees in Right to Work states enjoy higher personal income per capita than in Michigan.

    Per recent census data:

    Wyoming           $48,608
    Virginia                44,224
    Nevada                41,182
    Florida                 39,893
    North Dakota        39,870
    Nebraska             39,150
    Kansas                38,820
    South Dakota       38,661
    Texas                  37,774
    Iowa                    37,402
    Louisiana             36,424
    Oklahoma            35,985
    North Carolina      35,344
    Tennessee           34,976

    Michigan            $34,949

Regulars know I am pushing for Freedom to work (right to work) in Michigan.  Part of the argument going forward in this state will be to present the data for all to see. For this installment, we look at the top Job creating states versus the bottom.

Right to Work states lead the nation in creating new jobs (1999-2009)

    1. Texas              +866,000
    2. Florida             +291,600
    3. Arizona            +194,800
    4. Virginia            +138,400
    5. Nevada            +124,500

Michigan and other forced unionism states lead the nation in losing jobs (1999-2009)

    1. California        -170,400
    2. Indiana           -225,300
    3. Illinois            -332,700
    4. Ohio              -508,200
    50. Michigan       -687,600

    Michigan Freedom To Work

Its time to take back our state, and regain control of our own efforts and skills.

Folks here have seen some of my commentary on the issue, and understand where I am on the issue.  Quite a bit of effort has been made in the background on this issue so that it has the fighting chance it deserves. The planning and execution of this has included some of the organizers taking hardship on themselves to push for this all too appropriate measure for Michigan.

They took leaves of absence from paying jobs.

This is important enough for a number of folks who might otherwise have minor disagreement, to come together in this much needed effort.  We will need your help on this as well.

So note his press release comes from only a single group involved in our effort to unshackle Michigan workers to their unions, and bring accountability back to workers' representation.  From the Campaign for Liberty Tony Demott begins. (Note that Terry Bowman, a UAW worker is a point man in this)

Also note that there will be an effort to "out" Republicans who do not take advantage of this one opportunity to complete the process of healing the state of Michigan.  The pressure will be on, and if your Michigan Representative or Senator does not support what OUGHT TO BE seen as a natural right, perhaps its time they go back to the private sector and work for ... SIEU.

    We are not kidding.

    Dear Michigan Patriots,

Over  the past couple of weeks, we have been working to put Senate Majority  Leader Randy Richardville on record on Right to Work.  Will he allow a  vote?

We are not alone in this fight.  In fact, we've worked  closely with Terry Bowman, President and founder of Union  Conservatives.  I'm honored to introduce Terry and his group to you.

    The weekend primer

Not a bad way to start the Memorial day weekend. A bad back, fighting to keep the starter plants alive through overnight frost, and the county budget still with a great gaping hole.

Nothing says "hello summer!" like an adversarial life situation.

But I suppose its not too bad.  The back is only one part of me, the county has programs to cut, and the plants would die of neglect anyhow. And in the big picture, there are bigger fish fries to be had.

So I figured I would let you know there is some good news.  I am polling Michigan State Representatives and Senators for an upcoming article on Freedom to work (right-to-work) initiatives.  I have received almost half of their replies so far, and mostly all of them are going to be with the winning side of freeing our workers to work where their skills find them.  Free to work, with no regard to a forced union membership or dues in lieu of said membership.

Predictably, the Democrats who have answered so far do not believe in worker freedom.  I must give them credit however, for answering my inquiries, with the full understanding of who I am, and where the article will be written.

As we prepare for the Memorial Day weekend, I still encourage those good servants of our state to reconsider any opposition to the concept of freedom to work they may hold. ~ More below ~
