    I have been with my company for six years and have not received a salary increase.  I did get a nice year end bonus until this past year when our sales dropped 37% and the bonus was cut in half.  In light of the poor economy and the drop in sales I didn't expect a bonus at all.  My company is sucessful too but our owner is being very cautious with the cash flow and I don't blame him.  I am thrilled to still be working at this point.  Running in the red like government entities is not an option in the private sector.  

    Private employers do not have the option of increasing their cash flow via taxes.  They must manage their budgets like we do, try to make a profit to reinvest in that business to keep it sucessful and keep people working.  If that does not happen they close their doors.
