Detroit murders fall to lowest level since 1967

Really?  Holy crap!  That sorta looks like progress for the Cesspool of Detroit.  I mean Detroit has lowered its murder rate to levels that occurred when "Burn, Baby Burn!" was being chanted and Guv Romney had the National Guard containing a 12th Street war zone and Belle Isle was used as a detention center.

Hmmmmm, the numbers, eh?  The 308 murders echoing back to '67 is the accomplishment that is boasted by Detroit, right?  This will prolly be a hoot...

City of Detroit

1967 population - 1,600,000est.
2010 population - 772,419

That's a 51.41% decrease in population for the City of Detroit to enjoy a murder rate of 43 years ago.

There were an unofficial 308 homicides in the city last year, Detroit police announced Monday, a decline of more than 15% from the 364 in 2009. The city's highest homicide number was 714 deaths in 1974, the almanac said.

In addition, nonfatal shootings in Detroit decreased 10.5% last year from 1,307 to 1,170 in 2010, police said.

Wow - a 15% decrease in a year.  Amazing.  Detroit, you've come a long way baby.

Mmmmmmmm, only if one is a gullible fool.  See, if accounting for the population decline since 1967, and the same murder figure, the numbers will tell you that you have a 107% increased chance of being murdered in Detroit today.

1967 Detroit?  Yah, that marked the year that my family immediately moved from the city and a few short years later, moved the family business to Oakland County too.
