From what I've read about the Village of Empire Wifi... Ypsituckey's deal is what is going north.

And the village even covered the deadbeats with a consequence of "free".

There will be a couple of different options. It will be free and for those who use the free service, every 30 minutes you will sit through a set of commercials featuring local businesses. If you don't want to go through that process, you can pay a fee on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Funds raised from those fees will go to maintenance, connection upkeep and, once we've acquired sufficient funds, enlarging the connection area.

Ha!  If this wifi scheme transcends cable TV's original concept of paying for commercial free programming, by the end of next year the wifi subscribers will be sitting through commercials too.  LOL!

As I see it, for small concentrated areas of roughly 1 sq. mile, it's sufficient for surf junkies but I sure as hell wouldn't do any financial transactions on this system.  Too many disclaimers throughout the Ypsituckey link warning of its inherent weakness and the penalties associated with open wifi.  That'd prolly make another one of them consequences for the masses greedily wanting things provided "free" again.

I'm sure that the Sharon Jasper's of the populous will be delighted.
