    ... pretty much kill the usefulness of this idea.  
    I had some experience with an HSA a few years ago in trying to get coverage for me as a business sole proprietor.  The insurance rates for the catastrophic care coverage were so outrageously high that I could only afford to put tip-jar money into my HSA.  And then the administrator had the cheek to write me a letter advising me to beef up my HSA!  They got a letter from me letting them know in no uncertain terms that I would do so the moment they stopped bleeding me dry for the (never used) insurance coverage.
