Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Raise the curtain.

Amnesty wasn't enough, now he wants to eliminate the First Amendment?

During a vote on the Senate floor last night Democrats stopped an amendment that would have prevented the "fairness doctrine" from instituting Venezualan style government censorship of the airwaves.

I think everyone's familiar with the FD at this point but the Cliff Notes version... it basically mandates that radio stations provide equal time to different political opinions.

Sounds well and good except that, well, it's the government telling people what they can say or at least how often they can say it, (what's the First Amendment?).

Not content with an ideological and bias monopoly on network and cable "news" shows and entertainment programming and unable to turn a profit with the spectacularly failed liberal talk radio network Congressional Dems are hoping to takeover the radio airwaves too.

Can't beat Rush Limbaugh in the marketplace?  Just shut him the heck up with the coercive force of government power.

Well, surprise surprise, Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow don't believe in the First Amendment.

Add that to the CAFE debacle and his support of amnesty for illegal immigrants and it's painfully clear that Levin couldn't care less about things like, oh, the free market and American citizens.  Just what we need in a Senator.

Nick, I enjoy your website and comments in the Free Press, but in the future do me a favor. Please stop using the term "illegal immigrant", these people are "aliens" in our country illegally. There is a clear difference between one inviting a guest into their home and an intruder.

The use of this term must stop!

    Thanks,
    LX

what we call them as long as the word "Illegal" is in front of it.

Now, if Nick were to call them (5.00 / 1) (#4)

"undocumented workers", then either nobody would come to his website anymore.  Or, he'd have too many posts and his server would crash.

As long as somewhere in the phrase "illegal" is there, I think we can all agree on what we are talking about (ie - lawbreakers)

    But they're law abiding (5.00 / 1) (#5)
by John Galt on Fri Jul 20, 2007 at 11:47:29 PM EST
except for that whole "breaking into the country illegally" thing.

And except for the ones that cause the increase in violent crimes in our cities.  And the ones breaking the law through identity theft.

But just like Granholm's prisoner amnesty... if you give them amnesty then they won't be illegal anymore (and thus, not a problem).  If you decriminalize drugs, then you won't have a drug problem anymore.  I suppose if we decriminalized murder, we'd have no more murder problems either.

an illegal alien, illegal immigrant, illegal foreign mutant, or undocumented secret non-indigenous ninja by any other name... would be just as much breaking the law.

    Thank you (5.00 / 1) (#6)

for highlighting the failings of Karl Lenin. I hope that this will continue. I hope that the Michigan Republican Party will start highlighting the shameful record of this poor excuse for a senator along with those of (she's far from) Little Debbie Stabemall, and St. Bart Stupak.

Add to the list Lenin's consistent support for cut, run, and defeat in the war on terror.

Don't forget that along with his failure to slow down the effects of CAFE on Michigan auto builders, he has done zip to help Michigan tax payers. We are a major tax donor state to Washington, and get crumbs back on his watch.

    All good points, Rush (5.00 / 1) (#7)

Last time I checked, a majority of the US House delegation from Michigan is Republicans. How did we fare when Republicans controlled the House, Senate and Presidency? I'm sure Michigan stopped being a donor state during that time. Right? Or are they above criticism?

    no, they're not (5.00 / 1) (#10)
by Nick on Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 09:47:39 AM EST
Credit where credit's due.  The whole delegation's failed to get us our money's worth.

But the House GOP delegation didn't pass the Senate CAFE standard spike or the Senate amnesty plan.

    Just saying.

    I guess if you had a conservative President (1.00 / 1) (#11)

who opposed CAFE standards or amnesty programs...

Isn't it odd that conservatives have to rely on a liberal Democrat to stop programs that Republicans don't normally support? What does that say about the state of the GOP these days that John Dingell and Carl Levin are to the right of the President on CAFE?

    not much (5.00 / 1) (#12)
by Nick on Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 11:09:07 AM EST
    Not much good anyways.

But it's not a Republican Senator from North Dakota's primary job to look out for Michigan job makers.

Levin's the guy that has to help us.  Right now we're stuck with him.  He hasn't helped.  He isn't helping.

time and again that we're more than willing to break with our elected leadership if they step out of line on the issues that helped get them elected.

More than comfortable doing it.  You're not pointing out anything new.  Do you have a point beyond illustrating your fiercely partisan nature in contrast to the solidly ideological bent of the conservatives represented here?

Sorry I missed your earlier attempt at rebuttal until now. Karl Lenin has had a lot of years in the Senate of the United States. He is a true Washington insider who knows the ins and outs whether he is the minority or the majority. Karl Lenin, in whatever group he's been in, has always demonstrated that its more important to undermine the country on the international stage, and do nothing for his home state even when the governor is a giant socialist like him. He may not have been taken as seriously when he was in the minority, but at least you guys could be bleating now about how he'd always held the line on behalf of a major employer of democrats (UAW), and how he tempered the application of higher CAFE standards that could very well help eliminate jobs if not companies now (assuming he'd been serious in his latest attempt??). I guess being dead right is better then being righteously right when you're a dumbocrap. By the way, did you hear that he has lately been schooling the other blood suckers on how to attach "targeted" spending riders to bills so they can better empty our wallets?

They thought they would just do as they have done before and ignore citizens. A fait acompli is hard to roll back and Bush was so confident that the Senate would push it through that he already had his chickens in line in the house and his signing pen was smoking in anticipation.

The citizens MUST be humbled by removing the only media source not filtered through the Daily KOS and MoveOn.org controlled media (ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN and print media). Thus, the re-installation of "The Fairness Doctrine", which would not affect the other existing MSM, is now seen as a precursor to any amnesty action.
