Big events going on locally this week!

This is an above average week when it comes to events going on here in Michigan that focus on politics and government.  For starters, we've got a four city tour of the state Senate's MBT Impact Assessment Subcommittee.  They've put together a road show to gather input from taxpayers on the impact of the Michigan Business Tax, that handy 22% surcharge the Dems slapped on top of it and will be taking suggestions from business owners and community members on how to improve the structure.

Senators Mark Jansen, Jud Gilbert and Mike Prusi will be spending some time in Grand Rapids, Oakland County, Saginaw and Traverse City.  They'll be taking what they learn back to the Senate Finance Committee during a June meeting.  This MBT catastrophe is starting to garner more and more attention at the Capitol and it's no longer out of the question that something could be done to actually ease the burden on job providers.  I know, novel concept, right?

So we've got those meetings for the State politics and government but Michigan grabs the spotlight on the national stage too when John McCain, a real life bona fide candidate for President of the United States, visits Oakland University in Rochester to host a town hall.

I've heard about these "town hall" things and apparently they're the bee's knees.  I guess candidates go to them and they hang out for a while and listen to real life every day normal citizens.  They field questions, they discuss issues.  There's give and take.  Yeah, sounds cool.  Not that we know here in Michigan.  We've sorta been ignored by the Dems for the last, oh, three-hundred some odd days.

But there's one candidate who's willing to talk Michigan issues with Michigan people in Michigan.  And that's groovy squared.

If you're interested in attending any of these events, details are below the fold...

The Senate subcommittee hearings are as follows:

    Thursday, May 8 3 p.m. Grand Rapids

    Thursday, May 15 3 p.m. Oakland County

    Friday, May 16 1:30 p.m. Saginaw

    Monday, May 19 3 p.m. Traverse City

Will post specific locations ASAP so check back.
