It's just another political dog-and-pony show. Ring-master Jansen and the other Michigan Business Tax subcommittee members - Repubs Cassis and Gilbert, Dem Prusi - all voted for the MBT. Moreover, Jansen also voted for every penny of the $1.470 billion-worth of increased spending paid for by last year's monster bipartisan tax hikes. Gilbert and Prusi came close at $1.339 billion and $1.205 billion, and Cassis came in at "only" increasing spending by $217 million. IOW, Jansen and his buds on this phony committee have no intention of eliminating the tax, or even reducing it or the spending it pays for - they just want to strike a pose to fool biz owners, grass roots conservatives, and us into thinking that they are "on our side."

BS, Mark and colleagues. You showed by your votes whose side you're really on.

Here Charlie Brown, I'll hold the football and you run and kick it . . . Nuh-uh, not me, not anymore, pal.

I bet that the majority of the businesses crying over their tax liability under the MBT never said one word against the SBT when it was some other business stuck paying the way. Now that the MBT has shifted the tax burden off manufacturers and made other sectors pay their fair share, they're crying about how unfair it all is.

Almost all of the taxes that we pay give no consideration to whether we can afford to pay them or not. Property taxes, sales taxes, gas taxes, etc. don't give any consideration to whether you're making a profit or not.
