    Jack has made a decision.

I am writing today to announce my decision to withdraw from the race for Party Chairman. This comes after a great deal of careful consideration and discussion with close friends and family. I congratulate Ron Weiser for his strong and successful campaign. I wish him well in his new role as chairman and pledge to do what I can to help strengthen the party and deliver victory in 2010.

God speed on your future endeavors sir.  I hear you are up to some good things too!

I am stepping out of this race, but not out of the political arena. I intend to do my part to help make the party stronger and more unified under the banner of "less government, low taxes and individual responsibility." I will be sending newsletters and blogs to let you know what those "rascally Democrats" in Lansing are up to; things you aren't likely to read about in the newspaper.

I am happy to report that I have been offered a position that allows me to fight for some of those basic freedoms that all Republicans believe in and which our constitution protects. I will share the details of my new assignment soon. Until then, thank you to everyone who encouraged me in this race. Over 900 of you endorsed the effort. I will always be grateful for that.

I pledge to uphold the values and ideals that you hold dear and I encourage you to stay engaged in the pursuit of returning the Republican Party to its rightful place as the party of limited government and personal responsibility. God bless all of you.

Just confirms what I've known about Jack Hoogendyk since I first worked for him in 2005... the man has a real servant's heart and a willingness to do what he perceives is the right thing for the Party and the conservative cause.

MRP would have been in good hands with Hoogendyk.  He's a grade-A conservative who has stood against the Granholm-Cherry administration and their boy Andy Dillon more often than maybe any other elected official in the state of Michigan.

But as the race progressed it became increasingly clear that Ambassador Weiser, another fantastic candidate, rock solid conservative and a guy with a world's worth of potential to raise serious and desperately needed cash was wrapping things up before the race even hit the convention floor.

Jack could have fought it to the end and spilled a lot of conservative blood in the process.  But that's not what Jack's about.  He's about aiming that firepower at the bad guys, not one of his own.

    Much love and respect.

And congrats to Ambassador Weiser.  The Party is going to be in excellent hands and the sky is now officially the limit.

    Why I'm proud to be a Republican (none / 0) (#2)

Jack Hoogendyk makes me proud to be a Republican. This is the sort of inner-partying working Democrats can only dream of.

Two fantastic candidates for chair campaign. The winner is a great fit and the guy who didn't win graciously offers his help and support to the other guy.

    Thank you Mr. Hoogendyk.

Jack for Vice Chair!! (none / 0) (#3)

While Ron certainly has his assets - Jack is the natural born political leader.  A plainspoken hero who stands his ground and knows his principles - I think the entire MIGOP can agree that in understanding how the state actually works and knowing where to pull the right lever in Lansing - Jack is the knowledge base we need.

Jack should be Michigans #2 in the GOP!  Ron are you listening?
