When Governor Granholm is faced with tough economic news her default position's, nearly by rote, is `Green Energy' and `Let's make a movie'.

When Governor Granholm is faced with tough economic news her default position's, nearly by rote, is `Green Energy' and `Let's make a movie'. Both of these propositions are economy killers.

Green Energy has been well documented to destroy 2.2 private sector job for every one created, but I found this new statistic in the Oakland Press that lays out how the poor an economic trade off the movie industry is:

But many economists and policy analysts who have studied the issue independently contend that tax breaks for the TV and movie industry are rarely break-even deals for states, in part because the jobs created are often short-lived. Even the revenue departments in some states would agree.

Connecticut's revenue department, for example, found in 2007 that every dollar in tax credits generated only 20 cents in new tax revenue. Connecticut gave away an estimated $70 million in tax revenue that year.

"The credit does not 'pay for itself,"' Jennifer Weiner, a policy analyst for the New England Public Policy Center at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, wrote in a January report about Connecticut's incentives.

    Wonderful.

And Especially The Film Industry! (none / 0) (#2)

Considering that the movie industry is obviously among the most liberal, left-leaning, Democrat-loving, tree-hugging industries in America, and among the most damaging to our nation's moral fabric, isn't such an absurdly large tax credit for them essentially equivalent to showering money on the labor unions and enviro-nuts?

And as such, wouldn't this be reason enough NOT to give them all that money?
