    Tea Party Express IV Update

In the shadow (literally) of what was once the Summit Place Mall, the Tea Party Express IV pulled in for one of three Michigan stops before next weeks election.

    {More info after the fold.}

I'm still in the process of DL'ing the video I shot (and cleaning it up), so this is going to be a down and dirty update.

Crowd-wise, this wasn't a bad turnout for 4:00 on a Friday. I'd guesstimate that there was at least 500 by the beginning of the rally.

Yes, the guy on the right is wearing a Teamster jacket...and wasn't shy about letting people know it either.

A little after 4:00pm, the buses from the Tea Party Express pulled into the rally.

The event was MC'd by talk show host Roger Hedgecock.

I was hoping to see a lot of candidates show up to speak this afternoon. Out of all of the candidates on the ballot, only Rocky Raczkowski was there this afternoon (Dr. Steele would be at the Monroe appearance).

A few other points to add about this rally, it was being simulcast online, which was new this go-round.

The entertainment between speakers wasn't bad. Diana Nagy did the Pledge and National Anthem (No, we aren't in Illinois). They had a few new entertainers. The one that I liked the best was the Rapper from Waco (I'm trying to get his name and will try to clean up that part of the rally as best I can).

    OABTW Jason, wear a jacket...

    ;-)

I was retty sure it was over 500, maybe even pushing the 600 mark, but you may be closer.

Was talking to Lloyd Marcus about how Granholm was Obama, before Obama, and he mentioned something he noticed I had not.. "The mall here is a pretty good indicator."  How strange that my being used to this new reality made the appearance of an empty boarded up mall so 'normal', that I would not have already noticed.

In any event, the TPX does a pretty good job of bringing the 'song and dance' back into the political process.  Their program is both entertaining and motivating for some.  They are also quite real folks who will facebook friend you back as quick as you might ask.

Think of taking a group of RightMichigan.com readers tossing them in a bus, telling em to write a song or two about what they believe, and you have the type of make up that is the TPX.  Perhaps its one of the reasons folks can relate so easily.  They are likable because we can relate.

BTW.. I went to the DR Steele TPX rally in Monroe as well.  I ran into him while he pumping gas across the street.  Seemed to be unassuming and greeted with a "Hi I'm Rob."

About 400-450 at the Monroe rally, which surprised the TPX organizers who truly didn't expect more than a handful because the venue was short planned.  Needless to say the Steele team did a nice job with traffic control, and the crowd as usual... was awesome.

The video didn't turn out as well as I hoped... (none / 0) (#3)

...so I won't be posting the entire thing. People walking and standing in front of the camera, talking over the speakers on stage, that sort of thing.

I'll work on cutting it down and at least posting that guy from Waco, hopefully tomorrow.
