The argument is currently being waged in the national Republican circles of whether or not to oppose Obama's Supreme Court nominee if he/she turns out to be too radical.  One side argues "that person will replace a very liberal judge in the outgoing John Paul Stevens," so it is a waste to fight a battle over a neutrally effective change.  The other side would argue that if they can hold up the process in the hopes of someone who is a little more centered, then we might wind up with a Kennedy type who might often be a swing on certain issues.

Kennedy, who opposes abortion, yet rejected a bid to overturn ROE V WADE, but still considered a fairly conservative view on the court, yet supports giving people's stuff to other people as in KELO V CITY OF NEW LONDON.  ...Yeah something like that..

Aside from the obviously messed up situation that would allow a constitutionally retarded president to select two Supreme Court Justices within two years of taking office, I took the time to pen this for one other reason.

    Yeah you know why.. (more)

Granholm has somehow made he list of prospective candidates again..  As reported by the Wall Street Journal:

"    Of the other nine or so people reportedly on Obama's list, the AP managed to confirm seven of them. In addition to Thomas, they are: former Georgia Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears, federal appeals court judges Diane Wood and Merrick Garland, Solicitor General Elena Kagan, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. "

I wish it was a situation where we as Michiganders could be proud, but given her actions and words that fly in the face of constitutional intent, she would be as horrible a pick as anyone.  And I suspect that like previous Nominees Ginsberg or Kennedy, we would see a slide to the left for her if it is at all possible.

A slide to the left, from a sitting governor who was so unhappy with a state representative's assessment of her policy, she said that his words were treasonous.  A slide to the left, from a governor who would create a state of slaves to the federal government oppose the just actions of our attorney general to challenge the law on its constitutional basis, and allow the fed to assume unprecedented power over our lives and liberty.  A slide to the left, from a governor who without knowledge of any means available, signed onto requirements for renewable energy that will necessarily increase cost to Michigan's taxpayers.  A slide to the left, from a governor, who along with elements from both sides feel it is right to TAKE from one business and give to another in the form of credits as bribery.  A slide to the left, from a governor who recently signed into law a ban on the ability of a business to operate under the control of the owner's wishes and limited the ability of patrons or others to consume certain LEGAL product in a PRIVATE environment, all the while agreeing with a certain provision that rewarded a particular constituency the ability to avoid that measure...

Shall I suggest other ways in which the WORST GOVERNOR IN THE HISTORY OF THE STATE is quite leftist?

    No? Point made?

    Indeed...

Her opinion is poison.  Her actions are deadly to economies.  She has shown a willfulcontempt for the constitution as demonstrated by her words and deeds.  Her stay here in this state, and truly her arrival in this country, has had a more detrimental effect on real lives than any other state politico that I can recall, and to allow her to assume a position of quite literally "ultimate authority" would be a grave mistake.

I hold no great hope for the selection this president makes.  There can be no question he will select someone who is closely aligned with his particular redistributionist philosophy.  He has made it clear with his "too restrictive" constitutional comments made in the past.

But if he even looks at Jennifer Granholm seriously for more than 2 seconds.. God help us.

    ...that elections have consequences.

Leah Ward Sears?  A liberal "activist judge" that is a legend in her own mind.

Diane Wood?  A BJ Clinton appointee from Chicago that's an "unflinching and spirited intellectual counterweight" to the Seventh Circuit's Richard Posner and Frank Easterbrook (Both Reagan nominations).

Merrick Garland?  Another BJ Clinton appointee that freed the Uighurs, and  had Jamie 'Fannie Mae & 9/11 commission' Gorelick as his mentor.

Elena Kagan?  I just love this one...

"Kagan is apparently being backed by several people who are indebted to her from her time at Harvard. [Professors Laurence] Tribe, [Charles] Ogletree and [Alan] Dershowitz all had plagiarism scandals while Kagan headed up the law school -- and she in effect bailed them all out. Tribe and Ogletree were teachers/mentors to Obama and still advise him today, Tribe recently taking a job in the Department of Justice along with Kagan. She was named dean at Harvard by Larry Summers, who helped deregulate much of Wall Street in the Clinton administration and organize much of its bailout under Obama.

Janet "The system worked" Napolitano?  C'mon, whats not to like about Big Sis with the women's sports foundation haircut and the Dinah Shore Classic comfort shoes.

    Then there's Michigan's beloved MoleRattler...

Maybe Jenny is better suited to replace Geithner...

She should focus on the job at hand. (none / 0) (#2)

Gosh. I wish she would stop applying for jobs with President Obama and finally get serious about fixing our state, given the huge mess we're in. A $1.6 billion budget deficit, huge unemployment, and out-of-control spending with pay increases for unionized state employees.

Here would be a good start. Check out the video at www.michiganturnaroundplan.com: "The Power of Many." It would be great if we had a governor who could unite us behind a plan to rightsize state government.

Def: A business term coined to characterize the phenomenon of "failing upward."  Summarized by its originator, Laurence Peter, as the tendency of executives to be promoted until they reach their level of incompetence.  (In government this works a bit differently, with said incompetents being promoted even further).

Or an old maid. Granholm's name being on any list is just politics. There is no way the One is going to include our dear little dolt of a Governor in his adminstration at any level. Even he knows how toxic she is. And it would be a long term example of how really niave this President is to appoint her to the high court. Can you just see her breathlessly answering the questions of the Judicial Committee? No, Sister Jennifer Granholm of the Holy Sisters of Money Laundering is doomed to serve out her term and our sentence right here in the Soviet Socialist Republic of New Siberia. Oh, that is not to say that she won't go running to DC everytime her Messiah calls. But I really don't think that she is 1)Devious enough to play in this league 2) As radically idealogical as this President wants in a SCOTUS nominee. However she is short on intelligence and her legal resume is as thin as little Barry's. Anything can happen I guess but I don't see this at all. If she had a chance for a position in the Cess pool she would floating there already.
