235 years ago today, the first shots fired that brought us this great country opened the revolutionary war. In the Battle of Lexington and Concord the first shots rang out between British and American soldiers, starting America's fight for freedom.

While we go forward talking about our liberties, and the efforts at Tea Parties in Michigan and otherwise, take just a few moments to change perspective to one that might reflect the hopes and aspirations of our founders as they defended their own liberty and freedom from British rule to become self governing.

If you are on the left.. challenge yourself to place your personal political ambitions in contrast to the sacrifice made by those who gave you the ability to pursue them.  Consider seriously why you might support someone who says "I will not allow you free association" through blockage of right to work legislation. Isn't that quite un-patriotic?

    Happy Patriots' Day Michigan.

    Update on WATZ (none / 0) (#1)
by grannynanny on Mon Apr 19, 2010 at 01:14:39 PM EST
Just thought I would give you an interesting update on the "Teabagger" head line from WATZ.  I emailed the station manager with my complaint that their news manager's political agenda was trumping his job to report the news.

Received an email reply from Bruce Johnson the news director.  Here are several of his comments:

"A website search reveals "teabaggers" is a "common" term frequently associated with the Tea Party Movement.  The other meaning of the word he gave no thought to."  He then gave me a link to a "conservative" news site, PR Newswire Service, that noted the term was included in the New Oxford American Dictionary new words.  Also included in the new words were "death panels" and "birthers".

He states, "we got a few complaints in the morning but it got quite busy and they were unable to take it down until the afternoon."

"WATZ" remains committed to a position of neutrality."

On my charges of being biased he replied "to be biased would have been to ignore the group altogher."

When I emailed him back I noted that he was quite right about the MSM bias ignoring the Tea Parties as last year there was nary a mention of it.  I also told him he crossed the line of neutrality when he used "Teabaggers" in the head line.

So twice I have been assured by WATZ staff that they used the term without any thought to the actual connotation of the word.  Good grief, Alpena may be off the beaten path in this state but these dufuses are acting completely clueless about what is going on in politics and they are supposed to be the "news people" of one of the biggest radio stations in NE Michigan!
