    Geek49203 issues MEA Teacher challenge!

All my life, teachers kept saying, "If I worked in another job, I'd get more pay." Well, I challenge them... Spend this summer proving it!

AT the June 7 MEA rally in Jackson I issued the Geek49203 Teacher Challenge.  I think I was as popular as a turd in a punch bowl as I shouted over the MEA/Union/Dem demonstrators my challenge and passed out my literature.

I will give $1000 to the first tenured teacher who brings him a WRITTEN JOB OFFER in the private sector that is better than the pay they get now.  This is no joke -- the money is real, straight out of my own pocket.

    The conditions of the bet:

*Offer must be in writing, offered specifically for the tenured teacher claiming the prize.

*Claimant must show current income and benefits in writing for comparison.

    *Claimant must be MEA member.

*Deadline for entry claiming prize is midnight, Labor Day 2011.

*Same cash pay, or better.  This will be comparing your apples to apples, so deductions for health insurance and pension/401k contributions will be considered.

*Same benefits plan, or better.  IE, full health insurance with the same (or better) copays and deductibles (differences will be deducted from cash pay figure), full disability insurance, malpractice insurance, etc.  If you get a 401k in the new job, the employer's contribution must match what your current employer contributes (or better), otherwise it too will be deducted from your cash pay.  Same number of sick / flex / personal days, otherwise the value of a day's pay deducted for differences.

*Same vacation schedule or better.  Ten weeks off in a row, plus 1 week in spring, and 2 weeks off at the end of the calendar year.

*Same level of job security.  If employee is to be fired in the new job, they will have a full and exhaustive review with free representation before they are walked to the door.

*Promotions and guaranteed annual raises based on seniority, not job evaluation.

    *Same stress level, or less.

*Same amount of overnight travel required (or less).

    *Same amount of "emotional paycheck."

Teachers can declare their intention to collect by emailing me at:  Geek49203 at hotmail dot com.  I have retained a Jackson, Michigan accountant to evaluate the results, and award the money if conditions are met.

    . . . of this challenge on the Jackson Citizen-Patriot M-live site.

I take it you're still getting no takers.  No surprise, really.

FYI:  When posting, make sure you manually set the "section" to "news" . . . it defaults to "multimedia" for some odd reason (and really doesn't get much attention unless it's front-paged).

Speaking of which, Jason, would you be so kind as to front-page this one?  (And delete the duplication that doesn't have any comments on it.)
