In a Senate speech, Senator Inhofe will draw attention to a little known video from 2010, which shows a top EPA official, Region VI Administrator Al Armendariz, using the vivid metaphor of crucifixion to explain EPA's enforcement tactics for oil and gas producers. In this video Administrator Armendariz says:

"But as I said, oil and gas is an enforcement priority, it's one of seven, so we are going to spend a fair amount of time looking at oil and gas production. And I gave, I was in a meeting once and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement, and I think it was probably a little crude and maybe not appropriate for the meeting but I'll go ahead and tell you what I said. It was kind of like how the Romans used to conquer little villages in the Mediterranean. They'd go into a little Turkish town somewhere, they'd find the first five guys they saw and they would crucify them. And then you know that town was really easy to manage for the next few years. And so you make examples out of people who are in this case not compliant with the law. Find people who are not compliant with the law, and you hit them as hard as you can and you make examples out of them, and there is a deterrent effect there. And, companies that are smart see that, they don't want to play that game, and they decide at that point that it's time to clean up. And, that won't happen unless you have somebody out there making examples of people. So you go out, you look at an industry, you find people violating the law, you go aggressively after them. And we do have some pretty effective enforcement tools. Compliance can get very high, very, very quickly. That's what these companies respond to is  both their public image but also financial pressure. So you put some financial pressure on a company, you get other people in that industry to clean up very quickly. So, that's our general philosophy."

Ah yes, if only Boehner had the testicular fortitude (which he doesn't) to send a House Bill defunding this jackboot agency over to Dingy Harry to deal with...

but I sent an email to the EPA instead:

    Region VI Administrator Al Armendariz

    Mr. Gray:

This video of Region VI Administrator Al Armendariz is one of most disgusting examples of government arrogance I have witnessed in my nearly 7 decades.

    http://youtu.be/ze3GB_b7Nuo

I would hope that the "government of the people" doesn't just mean the government of the elite bureaucratic people who believe they have all of the answers.  Mr. Armendariz' threat of heavy-handed Nazi-type government is purely inappropriate under any circumstances.

Perhaps it is time for the EPA to go back to its roots rather than being a front for every misguided eco group.  We don't need, for example, E15 fuel when E85 and E10 have been around for years and provide minimal benefit while raising the cost of corn for animal feed.   Naturally, you are aware that non-subsidized ethanol will increase gas prices, again making the EPA a very popular agency.

We don't need CO2 scams and schemes when most scientists now admit that the backcasting by climate models is so poor that any forecasts of climate change is pure fiction.  Focus on clean air, clean soil, and clean water.  Chasing vapor schemes at taxpayer expense and then threatening the energy foundation of our great nations is not, nor should it be, in the EPA charter.

It is no wonder that the EPA is no longer seen as a beneficial agency and is rapidly overtaking the TSA as the most despised arm of government.  With PR from the likes of Al Armendariz, the EPA will absolutely be the most despised agency.

    Sincerely,

    Bruce Hall

    Naturally, I don't expect a reply.

Make an example out of them??? (none / 0) (#2)

I'm getting just a little P.O.'d at going through remedial driving seminars and getting memos on avoiding "excessive" mileage just because this jackhole and his buds get their jollies at making the price of fuel skyrocket.

I'm not holding my breath about the GOP addressing this problem in any way shape or form...after all, IT WAS A REPUBLICAN WHO CREATED THE EPA IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

And what galls me even more is the fact that most people fail to understand the simple fact that when screwheads like Mr. Armendariz make our costs go up, guess what? The prices that you pay at the corner store also go up as well.

Those items at the corner Wal-Mart, CVS & True Value don't just magically appear on the shelves. Someone driving a truck brought them to you.

Just something to keep in mind...

I was doing some following up on this story...and it keeps getting better and better.

It seems that not only Mr. Armendariz is making a half-hearted apology (okay, so I'm being generous), but so are his superiors.

One more thing. Nothing against CS here, but I've had some people ask about the context of his "let's go make an example out of them" attitude.

Mr. Armendariz was commenting about the process of fracking. Sadly, he failed to follow the lead of the big boss herself.

    Remember this?

at least 30-60 heavy handed thugs in the Obama administration this November, so that they are easier to manage later on.
