Awrey Bakeries: Left-To-Work .. in Indiana?

One of Metro Detroit's most iconic bakeries could soon be history after production workers on Wednesday voted down a contract proposal for the second time this week.

About 150 union workers at the 102-year-old Awrey Bakeries Inc. here rejected a take-it-or-leave-it offer by a 73-63 vote, said Brian Corrigan, steward for the United Distributive Workers Union, Council 30.

Workers were told not to show up for work today. But it is not clear if the rejected proposal spells the end for Livonia-based Awrey, which is known for its cakes, cheesecakes, fruit squares and gourmet specialty desserts.

    ....

The company has not said publicly whether the Awrey name would die or if production would move to a 58,000-square-foot Atkins Elegant Desserts facility in Noblesville, Ind., that Awrey acquired in 2009 in hopes of expanding the brand's presence nationally.

Indiana became a right-to-work state earlier this year, allowing workers to avoid paying union dues but still receive the benefits of union-negotiated contracts.

    Rest here

Typical goonion labor mentality.  They'd rather have 100% of nothing instead of 95% of something, all the while blaming job creators for their costly, inflexible goonionized stupidity.

stick to their guns and move to Indiana and send a clear and loud message to the goonions here in Michigan.  Shut up and work or we take our business elsewhere - where people appreciate a job.

...what happens when union bosses whip up their membership into a frenzy regarding "showing the boss" the strength of their union, only to see the whole thing comes crashing down like a house of cards when they just close up shop and move out of state.

    And statements like this:

"One of those workers, when asked about the vote, said he would rather see Awrey close because he would make more money collecting unemployment benefits. He declined to be named."

Yeah, I've heard that talk before. This schemp is really in for a shock if he thinks that calling MARVIN every two weeks will bring in more money then what he's making right now in a union shop.

Did anyone bother to tell him that 99-week thing won't be there after this month?

And I'm not 100% certain Lansing will do anything to change that. Gov. Snyder has been known to drag out the drum of kool aid for the doting republican masses, so I guess that anything is possible.

Another problem they have: Nobelsville is just outside of Indianapolis. That's about 300 miles from Detroit.

Just a short hop down the street for people like me.
