  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Bi-Partisan Attack on Michigan Veterans Benefits

(Certainly thought provoking... Promoted by Nick...)

Here we are, almost through the Second Annual Right Michigan Bloggers' Challenge, and all I've managed to do so far is post a few responses.  You'd think that I'd dropped off the map or something.  The fact of the matter is that I've been doing some follow-up investigation into the subject addressed in a blog post on the TEA Party of West Michigan site, which focused on an executive order signed by Governor Granholm and the all-veterans protest march in response.  (By the way, that Veterans Rally on May 21st drew about 600 veterans from across the state . . . not bad for being haphazardly organized.)

However, the deeper that I dug into what was going on, the uglier the can of worms got.  Seriously, fitting together the pieces of this puzzle began to resemble one of those "conspiracy theory" string maps that you see on certain television shows and movies.  And over this past weekend I realized that I had to do something with what I know, so below the fold is what I've managed to put together . . . you be the judge.  (I'll warn you in advance, this is a long read . . . you may want to brew a pot of coffee first.)

Just at the outset, this is an article in four parts (all four of which are here):

    • Executive Order 2009-22
    • Senate Introduced Bill 250
    • Enter the Lawyers
    • Connecting the Dots

I didn't break this up into a four-part post because I really just want to get this sucker off of my desk (albeit responsibly).  This has taken considerable time to research, outline, and draft, I've got other things I need to be working on, and I really couldn't think of appropriate "hooks" for each part.  That being said, shall we get started?

This post is in follow up to my post from a week or so ago about Governor Granholm going too far.  At tonight's meeting of the Kent County Veteran's Honor Guard I learned that the various veterans' organizations in Michigan have organized a full-blown march on Lansing to protest both Executive Order 2009-22 and Senate Bill 250.  (This has been in the works since the executive order was issued.)  I don't know what plans any of you may have for Thursday afternoon, but I would certainly appreciate a show of force in support of my brothers-in-arms.  The protest rally is planned for Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 3:30 PM on the front steps of the State Capitol Building in Lansing.  A transcript of their flyer follows the break:

Attention Governor Granholm . . . You Have Gone Too Far!

We Veterans are generally a pretty civil bunch.  We'll put up with a considerable amount of crap from our government and almost always take it in stride, being of the belief that stupidity should be suffered while it is sufferable.  But what I learned yesterday had me about at a gasket-blowing, blood-pressure-cuff-rupturing, penny-nail-spitting, profanity-laced tirade.  Really, I needed the balance of the day just to cool my boil down enough that I could write a post that someone wouldn't remove on the spot.
